Is Islam Compatible with Western Civilisation?
When someone declares that Islam is "incompatible with Western civilisation," why is the West automatically treated as the moral standard? Before you judge whether Islam fits your "Western" world, you must first prove that your world is morally defensible.https://wrzky.com/is-islam-compatible-with-western-civilisation/

This is the problem with the rust belt. This is a poor rural area in Detroit Michigan. There are poor rural areas like this in the rust belt. Having houses far way from their neighbors makes people more isolated, dumb, and conservative.

Extreme individualism and the entrepreneurial self of neoliberalism are 'clogging up courts' of Western democracy

Saw a post suggesting the choices we make are all that stand between us and success, and I couldn’t disagree more. If that’s true for you, then you are #privileged indeed.
The greatest myth of #HyperIndividualism slung against marginalised folks: That we can simply make “the right choices” out of the systemic #oppression that denies our human right to respect, support and equity.
We are not the ones who need to “choose better".
The #prejudiced are the ones who need to choose and DO better. -
Up till recently, I thought #SelfHosting was the way. I now feel it's not for anyone not immersed in the finer details, for various reasons like time, spoons or capability.
When you are not well-versed enough, even using a self-hosting service can be fraught because there is high chance you will miss, and break, things you didn't even know to check.
Plus, ideologically, it still pushes #hyperindividualism. More than ever, I believe the way forward is interdependent, collective and cooperative.

How to make neglect, isolation and warehousing of the frail aged ok:
(yeah, I admit it, I'm actually looking to drag this tangle of weeds into the sunlight)
"Just remember, they've had their life, you shouldn't let looking after them ruin yours."

Satire - Arrrgh, they want me to phone them once a fortnight and speak with them for 15 minutes. They're had their life and now they're trying to ruin mine!

I found this resonated for me a great deal. The disconnect of how media presents America and our day-to-day experience feels real. Never more so than under the current administration.
The US invented the supermarket style of shopping wear products were on display so people would buy lots of them. #Capitalism.
I’ve attached a picture of a Walgreens drugstore across from where I work. Most products are under lock and key and you have to press the button to get attention. The shopping experience is revolting. It’s easy to blame shoplifters for the lack of products on the shelving, however people are desperate.
I think the core problems are #Colonization and #IncomeInequality.

@wist
That's an insight into self-obsession and maybe B.R. identifies one root of today's hyper-individualism.Perhaps our culture's hyper-individualism could be traced to more Christianities which stressed the importance of internal psychological states and events.
Though the Puritan ethics would seem to have been a brake on, or obstacle to, actions which were openly me, me, me. cf #DonaldTrump

One consequence of #Hyperindividualism is not knowing how much we need other people.
I'm seeing this writ large in the US of A currently. That the people of a nation founded in genocide and dehumanisation have apparently lost the struggle to progress towards recognising and prioritising the humanity of all their fellow residents is saddening.
Also hearing on #ABCRN that 1 in 40 Australians are using #AIChatBots for companionship.
Just who will be there for these folk when they need IRL help?

CW: uspol, 4B, resistance, fatalism
Interview with Sophie Lewis on the #transphobia of #4B as well as its #hyperindividualism and fatalism.
"It's also very concerning to me that the romanticized version of 4B that many Western feminists seem to have in mind is not paying attention to the ample evidence of queerphobic, transphobic, and homophobic flavors in the various message boards that represent 4B in South Korea."

This is an overview, the path we need to try is to focus on #commons and #cooperation for building tools and communities, to use these tools to challenge the current structures of power. This is a very different path than the #stupidindividualism (as some people say #hyperindividualism) of the current capitalist path. The way isn’t through more fragmentation, but by connecting these fragments into a more coherent whole—something the #OMN (Open Media Network) is working towards. We need #solidarity and #mutualaid to build this tool, which can then be used to build the communities to use it.
The issues are wide, is not just the #dotcons enclosing the commons, but the way people get sucked into the #NGO and culture/control paths, which reinforces the very systems of oppression, that on the surface claims to fight. We can’t keep putting plasters on these problems. In the media/tech world the path is actually not that hard, real change comes from #grassroots efforts that prioritize #4opens: OpenData, OpenSource, OpenProcess, and OpenStandards. These create transparency and accountability, and help us compost the #techshit that has built up over decades of bad practice.
I outline this as the OMN project that provides a structure to link these disparate actions and paths together, creating a “native” #NetworkOfNetworks where flows of trust and information/data and metadata can be built on solid, open foundations. By strongly focusing on principles, we foster #communities that are resilient, self-sufficient, #DIY and capable of defending against the enclosures that happen by default on the #mainstreaming path we are all on.
It’s time to turn away from the (stupid)individualistic mindset that capitalism cultivates and return to a more healthy balance with #CollectiveEmpowerment. This isn’t about returning to a naive vision of the past but evolving our tactics for the present, using what’s left of the openweb to build something more robust and deeply rooted, we have started down this path with the #fediverse
The #OMN is building from this first step, a path that is usefully as it’s native to creating a #reboot for the #openweb. It’s about recognizing the cracks in the current system and knowing where pressure can make the cracks grow to open up space to compost the old and nourish the fresh shoots of alternative tech and media that we need. This nurtures communities that then builds better tech, a simple circle, with likely a better outcome than the current #deathcult

[Thread] Random excerpts from #KleeBenally 's book, #NoSpiritualSurrender
The Enemy of #MotherEarth
"From Mother Earth to our bodies, in a #capitalist system everything that can be reduced to a commodity will be. As long as it can be sold, bought, or otherwise exploited, nothing is sacred. So long as the lands (and by extension our bodies) are viewed this way we will have conflict, as #capitalism is the enemy of Mother Earth and all that we hold to be #sacred.
"In its base definition, capitalism is an economic and political system based on an unregulated or 'free' market, private property, competition, and limited government intervention. But the definition obscures the reality that capitalism is based upon extreme social #exploitation and dispossession, #EcologicalDestruction, #hyperindividualism and #materialism, and its history is rooted in #WhiteSupremacy, #cishetereopatriarchy, #genocide, and #slavery.
"To be anti-capitalist is not enough, anti-capitalist propositions rooted in #industrialism and #extractivism are just as invested in #ecocidal (therefore anti-Indigenous) economies. Killing the Earth is killing Indigenous existence, #Colonizers must religiously convince themselves and others that the world is already dead to justify their ongoing violence against the Earth and existence. In the face of global ecological ruin, some attempt to further convince themselves that killing the Earth just a little bit less is an appropriate response."

Honestly: #left, you disappoint me.
Here just plain old capitalist opportunist with some mania & narcissim would have been an adept description.
But you have taken the bait & eaten post-thatcherite seeds of #hyperindividualism and become blind to the obviousness that these people are products of the structure that they used to rise first, and problematic personalities only second.
You can’t see #structure: You look for a personality, an individual’s ”merits” to do the job instead.
