Excellent meeting of the farmers in @SunMtnFarmClub -- figuring out schedules, types of work, doing labor rights education, food safety training...

One of my favorite features is using the Offers/Requests function on #hylo.com to organize the days when farmers join the crew working on another farmer's place.

I just finished reading the paper “Borrow checking Hylo”

If they make serious progress with #Hylo and can uphold their claims, I believe Hylo is going to be one of the few serious contenders to #rustlang in terms of memory safety. They solve the same problems, but Hylo does it in a simpler, more explicit framework (let, set, inout, sink) based on Value Semantics.

But the #rustlang ecosystem makes huge progress and #Hylo does not even provide pre-built binaries because of its early stage of development. So it is unlikely at this stage.

Remark: I did not determine how #Hylo represents interior mutability, but this should be doable.

Reading about Hylo (formerly Val) and trying to wrap my head around it.

So far _feels_ to me like it mostly just repackages same Rust concepts with different names:

1. &mut refs > “inout”
2. &refs > “let”
3. move > “sink”

“set” convention (placement new) is something Rust lacks 1st class support for – and needs hacks around it, when needed.

It seems quite a bit like Rust with expressiveness of named lifetimes removed. I fail to see what’s offered instead.

@atomicpoet Maybe give #Hylo a try as well. It doesn't federate yet, but they might add that in the future, and it IS open source.

My greatest hope here lies with #holochain where promising projects like #hylo #kizuna #junto might build distributed hApps for collaborative and social net features

#Hylo has been acquired by #Holo, and will be ported to run on their #Holochain network, a kind of distributed "cloud" hosting framework. The #Loomio co-op have said they will no longer offer gratis use of their flagship instance, so Hylo could be an alternative for unfunded groups that can't afford to pay for hosting.
