  1. #Hydroneer adventures continue! In accordance with my newly-imposed rule, I streamed today's session. I added a second drill to my underground mine in Embers Cradle, bringing the total active drills there up to four. Then I built a Tier 2 drill at the master forge, which I used to begin a new mine in Mildew's Aquifer.

    Also, I set off a nuclear warhead and ran some people over with my truck. 😁

    Here's my latest "19th century orphan-crushing machine" as one chatter so colorfully described it.

  6. Still pretty much addicted to #Hydroneer. Think I'm going to impose a new rule on myself: I can only play it if I stream it.

    So far, I've:
    * Built two fully-automated mining and refining lines, one of which is underground
    * Bought all of the mining plots on the map (though I'm still just working on the starter plot)
    * Built a house
    * Made my production lines self-repairing
    * Started a farm
    * Bought seeds for all six crops
    * Bought an ATV and a steamroller
    * Made a fortune in the stock market

  11. Continuing to play #Hydroneer offline after getting started on stream a few days ago. Well and truly addicted now. 😅

    Took me awhile to figure everything out but I've got a smooth-running automatic mining operation going now, and I've started farming!

    I'll probably do another stream soon-ish.

  16. Planning on #GoingLive on #Owncast in about half an hour to play some #Hydroneer for PC! I picked this one up quite awhile ago after seeing someone streaming it, and I'm looking forward to giving it a proper try.

    @jillybeans will announce when I start!

  21. As much as I've bashed the Hydroneer DLC, one thing it gets right is the hauler. Vehicles are all bouncy in the silly game physics so they mostly feel lightweight and interchangeable to some degree. But the hauler doesn't. It feels heavy and enormous. You can't reliably physics exploit to jump into the cab, you really do need to use the ladder. It can't easily maneuver through towns. You can crouch walk under it while carrying stuff even on flat ground and you'll find yourself needing to do that. It can carry the old biggest vehicle in the truck bed or on the crane. That's why it's the only vehicle that can carry objects with the "heavy" tag.

    It's appealing to the part of the brain that played with big trucks in preschool.

  25. Now that I've built the last shop in Vocalidus and have a mining setup at the bottom of T2, I'm not sure I'd actually recommend the DLC. It's not really an expansion on pre-existing ideas, it's just the same experience as the base game with slightly more fiddliness and more grinding.

    Some of the new stuff has kernels of interesting ideas but, in practice, they're pointless. The oil rigs produce free resources once built but traveling to them is a hassle and infinite resources are easy to come by. The forge marks let you roll gacha for item buffs but more drills is still more effective so why risk getting a worse drill that's only useful as scrap, especially with how tedious they are to find? Building shops in New Glade could be fun but there's obvious places for the two non-tiered shops and the rest don't have stuff you'll need to revisit often.

    It's for people who want more of the same Hydroneer, not for people who want more Hydroneer the way farming and fishing added something.

  29. Now I remember why I quit Hydroneer last time. The sorter and the pipe repair automation system are going to be identical at every base. There really should be a way to Blueprint them but that's not a mechanic in Hydroneer. #Hydroneer
