  1. Germany and Japan test hydrogen future with BMW, Toyota fuel cell cars

BMW and Toyota are collaborating to develop the third generation of fuel cell technology. During a recent visit…

  2. 🚗💸 Oh, the excitement of buying a hydrogen car just to watch it evaporate into a financial black hole! The Toyota Mirai proves that if you want to lose money fast, there's no better way than investing in cutting-edge *depreciation technology*. 😂

  6. CW: politics, atpol, cars

@feyter News on the question how Austrian owners of hydrogen cars can now refuel, given that OMV will shut down their refuelling stations:

According to today's issue of DerStandard, Wien Energie will keep offering two refuelling stations in Vienna. One will need a contract to refuel there though.

The most important issue this chart leaves out is whether or not it would take more energy to make electricity or make hydrogen for cars.

It would be wonderful to get rid of all the baggage with EV batteries and just fill up. However, according to the chart it would cost 75 pounds to fill up a hydrogen car!

Though the emissions would turn into water vapor I am suspicious of the environmental effects of millions of hydrogen powered cars.

People and other animals have always harmlessly farted C02 and methane, but once the emissions of both gasses cranked up from human activity we got global climate change as a result.

  8. Electricity is not clean. 60% of electricity in the US is produced by burning fossil fuel (20% coal). Using electricity for #EV means more dirty coal is burned. The lithium EV batteries are toxic and carcinogen. If you insist in using electricity, you may consider buying a hydrogen car instead. Hydrogen fuel cells use liquified hydrogen produced by the electrolysis of water. In other words, both EVs and #HydrogenCars use electricity as the power source.

  9. @Hypx That’s an interesting POV.

Don’t really care either way, but #HydrogenCars can get most of the same subsidies in California as #ElectricVehicles as far as I know.

The big negative for me for an EV is I don’t want to own one, since the tech is evolving quickly, so I’d have to lease (which I don’t normally do) instead of buy to avoid owning outdated tech that’s hard to sell.

Big negative for hydrogen is filling stations. Prefer the idea of a full 🔋 every morning at home.
