  1. My newest #Prelights article highlights a #preprint by B. R. Baisla et al. (2025) and their search for morphological #prezygotic #barriers to reduce #hybridization among the species complex of #Nasonia, #parasitoid wasps. Male genital morphology apparently does not prevent hybridization, pre-mating #barriers are still unknown.

  2. Against my better judgement I ordered a tayberry, a hybrid of blackberry and raspberry created in 1979 near the Tay River in Scotland. Tried an ice cream with this flavor a few years ago and it tasted exactly like Pepto-Bismol. Giving it a second chance. #tayberry #berries #fruit #garden #gardening #rubus #blackberry #raspberry #hybridization

  3. Exited to see our paper on gene flow and speciation in thrushes come out in Molecular Ecology. Really fun and interesting work with Kira Delmore and @JeffDaCosta. #speciation, #geneflow, #hybridization, #birds

  4. Fungal hybrids study finds #ClimateCrisis could trigger outbreak of new and lethal diseases

Origin of #fungal #hybrids with pathogenic potential from warm seawater environments: Valentina del Olmo et al. nature.com/articles/s41467-023

"#Candida orthopsilosis is a hybrid #microbe that originated from 2 other parental #fungi in a marine environment. And it is precisely this #hybridization that has conferred certain properties which make it a potential threat to global health."

  5. A polygenic explanation for Haldane’s rule in butterflies
Xiong et al. (Jim Mallet's team)
    #PopGen #Hybridization #Polygenic

"numerous small-effect factors on a single chromosome can appear as spurious large-effect loci. This mapping artifact persists even for large samples and dense markers and may cause underreporting of polygenicity from genetic crosses."

  6. It’s beginning to look a lot like… a brand new evolution experiment happening in the lab! ✨✨✨#yeast #Saccharomyces #ExperimentalEvolution #Hybridization

  7. #introduction I am a European-American primatologist that studies all things ‘omics of the highly charismatic Brazilian marmosets. I am new to working with howlers as well. I am out here to post mostly of about #Hybridization, #microbiome, #primates, #brazil, #omics, #viruses, #NanoporeSequencing, and #disease susceptibility.

  8. Belatedly, I am a plant systematist at The Morton #Arboretum, with active projects in #oaks (#phylogenetics / #phylogenomics, #hybridization, #introgression, genetic and functional #diversity), #prairies (effects of #phylogenetic and functional diversity on #restoration outcomes), #sedges (#genome and #chromosome evolution), and other plant groups. I also tweet on #botany and #NaturalHistory of the #Chicago region and other areas. Meet my lab at: systematics.mortonarb.org
