From CAL FIRE BEU / CAL TRANS District 5 on FB: Heads up travelers through the Big Sur area. A one-day maintenance project is happening tomorrow along Highway 1, helping us keep the roadway safe and flowing smoothly. Work will take place at Torre Canyon where crews will be removing rock piles left from recent Timber Fire operations. This work will clear pullouts, restores proper drainage, and reduces the chance of rocks reaching the travel lane. Expect 10–15 minute delays between 9 a.m.–3 p.m.

UPDATE: The northern closure limit of #Hwy1 on the #BigSur coast is now at Lime Creek (PM 32.2). This is expected to continue to move south by tomorrow afternoon to the Big Creek Vista Point (PM 27). The southern closure limit remains at #RaggedPoint in #SanLuisObispoCounty.

#Hwy1 on the #BigSur coast remains closed between Deetjen’s Inn in Monterey County at PM 42.2 and Ragged Point in San Luis Obispo County. Dani Creek Slide at PM 22.6, Paul’s Slide at PM 21.7, & Gilbert’s Slide at PM 10.6 (all pictured here) are not traversable by vehicle traffic.

UPDATE: A major improvement project on #Hwy1 in #SanLuisObispoCounty will result in a 24/7 detour in #ArroyoGrande beginning on Monday, April 10 at 7 am.

Travel opportunities still abound on the #BigSurCoast. Closure limits on #Hwy1 at Deetjen’s in the north and Ragged Point in the south still allow for miles-long exploration along this scenic byway. Crews continue to work 7 days a week to shrink closure limits and make repairs.

Crews have been able to create a one-lane opening on #Hwy1 at PM 39.5 where a slide has covered the road south of Torre Canyon Bridge. Evacuation is now possible for residents south of the slide. Crews will return after expected rains this week to finish stabilizing the slope.
