  1. Storm #Erin (ex- #HurricaneErin) has become a monstrous extratropical cyclone seen today by #GOES16 #StormErin

Good bye Hurricane Erin, meteorologist Jeff Berardelli posted yesterday.
I don't know why he says good bye, I say Hello! 😁

Within the last 24 hours, Erin entered the jet train and travelled 1660km across the Atlantic. Now at speed of 115km/hour or 62knots which is only 37km (20kn) below a cat 1 hurricane.
And her eye is at 956hPa.

    Named tropical storms aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/hurdat/Data_
with a comparable minimum air pressure typically achieved a maximum sustained wind speed of 200kmph or 110 knots, which is category 3 strength...😱 Thank god, sea surface temperature is cool in the Cold Blob at 14.4°C or Erin would pick up more speed, I guess

And look what happened to the jetstream when Erin entered the scene.
Fascinating is the motionless, blue tornado-like trunk protruding out of Erin into the jet. And within 24 hours, the wind band got all messed up. Quite the contrary to the straightening and strengthening which the UK Met Office predicted for what Erin will do to the jet.
But it's early yet, maybe their projection manifests tomorrow.

She will bring about a major change to #UKWeather next week but before that will sweep up some hot air from the Continent for #BankHoliday Monday.

  4. Tracking Aftermath From #HurricaneErin on #Ocean
#Meteorologists piece together aftereffects in #hurricane’s path, and look ahead to future storms.
One key signature is temperature. Ocean is layered like a cake, with warm water on top and cold water below. #Hurricanes churn those layers, bringing cooler water to surface. Because hurricanes feed on heat, this cooling effect could weaken future storms in area, said Greg Foltz, #oceanographer at #NOAA

  6. #NCwx #OBX #HurricaneErin #Erin

From NWS Newport/Morehead City on FB:

8/22/25 @ 4:50 AM - Although Erin is moving away from our coast, significant impacts will continue today for the Outer Banks between Oregon Inlet and Ocracoke due to large swells and wave run-up on severely compromised dune structures. Some properties on the northern Outer Banks as well as the Crystal Coast, Downeast, and Coastal Onslow may see some shallow coastal flooding as well. Lastly, the rip current risk will remain high for beaches north of Cape Lookout.

From NC’s Weather Authority on FB:

Unfortunately, this morning's high tide is hitting parts of NC Highway 12 hard. A large 200-foot-long dune breach has occurred just south of Oregon Inlet. The highway remains closed from Oregon Inlet to Hatteras Island and on the North end of Ocracoke until further notice.

  11. Can we get to 19 #airquality index from 26, which would bring us into the "excellent" category for the first time I can remember in #Brooklyn? Wondering whether this is ironically linked to #winds and shakeup from #HurricaneErin in line with more prevalent storms

  12. #HurricaneErin #Erin #NCwx #NC12 #OBX

From Dare County Government on FB: N.C. Hwy. 12 on Hatteras Island remains CLOSED due to major ocean overwash. NCDOT NC 12 crews are working to clear roadways, but the road will remain closed until travel is safe.

  15. How #ClimateChange Affects #Hurricanes Like Erin
#GlobalWarming is changing the way storms behave.
"It’s a very easy set of dots to connect,” said Jim Kossin, who worked at the #NOAA as a #hurricane specialist and climate scientist before he retired. “These rapid intensification events are linked pretty directly to that human fingerprint.”

  18. Per The Miami Herald — Erin is one strong dame!! 🌊

    #hurricaneerin #Atlantic #weather

Stomach-churning images taken from weather buoys in the Atlantic Ocean show Category 2 Hurricane Erin is creating walls of water as it spins along the East Coast.
Thirty-foot waves have been reported by NOAA buoys 60 miles from the eye of the storm, which is equivalent to a three-story building racing across the ocean.

The waves are being driven by sustained winds of 100 mph, with even higher gusts…

  19. Urgent York County Rip Current & High Surf Alert: Dangerous rip currents and rough surf conditions pose drowning risk at all York County beaches today through Sunday, 8/24/25.
