100 years ago, the Canadian government passed the Chinese Exclusion Act, slamming the door on Chinese immigration to Canada. A century later, I rose in the Senate to deplore the Act's dark legacy, to celebrate the Chinese Canadians who excelled despite the Act's terrible racism, and to warn us against the dangers of returning to xenophobia and anti-Chinese bigotry.
