These first few are using the #Humblewood setting for #DnD5e I'm putting together a humblefolk party.

Today's entry is the ringleader, Echo Fabletongue, a vulpin Bard of Road in possession of a quick tongue and an even quicker saucy wink.

  7. So I am finding my self if a unique place. My group is looking in my direction to run the next game in like a year or more. And I have been having fun with Redwall for a while now. So I want to do a critter game.

But I have options. I have been looking at #Pugmire for years now. And see the new edition. But I also came across #Humblewood too, which looks interesting.

Any suggestions? I know Humble is DND 5E based. I thought Pugmire was too. But am seeing not?

#pnpde

  11. Last night we finished #ForestFriends #dnd, a casual family friendly adventure following the #Humblewood sourcebook. It was meant to be lower effort palette cleanser after #CurseOfStrahd and I was able to get my son to join which was nice. But man did it fall flat at times. My idea of running it like a self aware cartoon was neat but I really failed to deliver. Blame post-covid slowness of the wit. We'll return using this cast in a #Spelljammer sequel but shelving em for now

  12. Finished out our #HumbleWood #dnd campaign! Back to our fancy pants home brewed adventure! #portugal #medieval

  14. Pen and Paper Blog: Root – Das Rollenspiel (Rezension)

Man spielt anthropomorphe Tierchen.

    Bild: Pegasus Spiele

    Random These

    I am Root

Neue Abstammungen, neue Klassen, neue.. you name it. Im Kickstarter ab April. Ab zur Launchpage: tinyurl.com/3a3pttbv #pnpde

  19. Meet Adebar Zweig (Twig)
My #Gallus #DND Hero for our #Humblewood Adventure.
He is a terrible Spore #Druid (Level 1)
#Gallus is in DND the Name for a .. chickenlike #species. In case he has to flee, he will cackle :)

I just had to draw him.
I love the scene in Princess Mononoke, where the woodland god creates life and death with every step. So drew my #Sporedruid in a similar scene.

I think i will create a few stickers for my Etzyshop with him. What do you think?

  20. Damn, little late for my #ForestFriends game but I just hit on a neat idea to expand #HumbleWood's introductory adventure. Create a faction organization chart for the Bandit Coalition and populate it with randomly generated captains and lackeys. Yeah, the Nemesis System. I guess you could use the idea for any faction in any game. #dnd

  21. Humblewood Session 01

Last weekend I decided to try the Humblewood D&D campaign setting with the kids. For the past year (give or take) we’ve had a lot of fun playing DnD Adventure Club campaigns. Our one major foray in to regular D&D, Dragons of Stormreck Isle, was a failure. I think there were a few reasons for that. First of all, I was fairly new to DMing and so probably not doing as good of a job as I am a year-ish later. Second, since it was a campaign meant to introduce people to both playing and DMing, it came with pre-made characters. I think that meant the kids had less of an attachment to the characters. Also, the session went very slowly as I had to go back and forth through the player handbook, monster manual, and campaign sheet to look up spells, monsters, etc.

I came across Humblewood recently and thought the kids might like the setting. Humblewood takes place in a world where some species of birds and other woodland creatures are human-sized and intelligent. When the Humblewood book arrived, I gave it to the kids and told them to stay away from the DM chapter. They looked through the species and decided what they wanted to play as. It was pretty funny that Sam usually plays a dwarf in DnD Adventure Club and he ended up choosing a strig in Humblewood; the dwarf equivalent in the Humblewood species. The header image for this post is Sam’s drawing of his character for his character sheet.

To avoid the issues we had with combat going too slowly with “real” D&D, I decided to do a hybrid between digital and physical. We created the characters on DnD Beyond and I printed out those sheets for the kids to use to fill out the Humblewood character sheets. In addition to helping us make the characters without having to look up too much, it allowed me to use DnD Beyond encounter creator to create all the encounters. This sped things up by handling initiative tracking for me and automatically surfacing the monster’s stat blocks. I also used DnD Beyond’s map feature for the big battles so that the kids could see where they were in relation those they were battling. To keep things moving even more quickly, I used 2 laptops – one had the story and map and the other had the encounter builder. (I would REALLY love to see DnD Beyond unify these tools)

The kids and I had a blast and they can’t wait to play the next session. The highlight moment was when the kids went to a Tavern. Sam is a strig (owl), Stella is a mapach (racoon), and Scarlett is a jerbeen (mouse). When I had the tavern waitress come take their orders, Sam ordered fried jerbeen. I don’t know if he was trying to be funny or just going with the fact that real life owls eat mice, but it was a hilarious moment within the game. Scarlett illustrated the moment here:

  22. Tonight in #ForestFriends #dnd I took a liberty with one of the #Humblewood NPCs and my players immediately recognized his vibe

  23. #dnd #ttrpg Recruitment Drive!

#ForestFriends is a mashup of adventures from #Humblewood (lvls 1-5) and #Spelljammers (lvls 5-10) in the style of a self aware kids cartoon about to be rebooted. We need three players to start. Embrace your inner furry!

  24. @Shkshkshk @furry Probably #Humblewood is the most mainstream, but don't sleep on vanilla #Traveller.

  25. @thoughtpunks in my genre hopping #dnd Homebrew, the party visited a world that was a self aware 80s era talking animal cartoon called Forest Friends. Later in the campaign they returned and found it'd been rebooted and they went to space. I'm using that idea now to adapt the #Humblewood and #Spelljammers content into an adventure

  26. Listed! #ForestFriends starts Tuesdays in July with a character creation Session 0 jamboree, and then we're gonna mash #Humblewood and #Spelljammers together like action figures in your old toy chest. Join me, won't you? #dnd startplaying.games/adventure/c

  27. This is coming along nicely for #humblewood - Theater of the mind scenery with character cards, drop a texture down for random encounters and got cutesy tokens by DeviantArt User Snowbound-Becca - deviantart.com/snowbound-becca

There's just a couple named NPCs that aren't represented in official art anywhere, but so far so good

  28. Spent a good chunk of my day reading the #Humblewood #dnd campaign adventure and working on my Foundry world for it. Been nice and chill!

  29. Alrighty, coming soon on Startplaying.games: Forest Friends Take Off! Submitted my listing with this banner to evoke the Saturday morning cartooniness of it all.

  30. So after #CurseOfStrahd the group wants something shorter and lighter. Initially they were talking Phandelver & Below, but then I threw out the idea of #Humblewood x #Spelljammers and now they're all spamming Starfox gifs #dnd #ttrpg

  31. QsotN:

"I think you will agree that while she is not the friendliest person I've ever met—excuse me, the friendliest FURSON I've ever met … "

"It looks like you're trying to write a spell scroll. Would you like help?"

"If only we had bards. Plural."
"There's a reason a standard party contains two to five bards."

"I insight that this is beer."

  32. QsotN:

"Illusions are not my speciality. I do have a spell that can make the enemy look like they're on fire."

"I feel like there's an extra step in there we don't know about bat preservation."

[corvum voice] "How do you do, fellow mapach?"

    #DnD #Humblewood

  33. QsotN:

"I'll do my best to hide. I know there aren't a lot of trees, but there may be a rock … or a strig … "

"You now have bless from your emotional support mouse."

"It reminds me of the sack I used to have when I was an owlet."

    #DnD #Humblewood

  34. One of the fun bits of running a #DnD campaign with your immediate family: Guerrilla gameplay. My wife is eating lunch at the table this afternoon. From the kitchen, I lead in with "you wake with a pounding headache..." She realizes what's happening and shoots up out of her seat to fetch her dice. 😁

I'm still weaving the wife and kids into the larger story, so quick hits of individual progression are both useful and really fun.
