It's spring here, but while many crave cold salads and smoothies, I feel like a grandma. I am craving simmered root veggies, hearty soups, and soul food made with care.
I post about food because I notice many people only care about convenience now. They often buy things that are prepackaged or parboiled.
What happened to slow-cooking and making meals together? Call me nostalgic, but there's something powerfully sexy about feeding your partner a favourite dish you made for them.
This reminds me of a concept called **The Slow Food Effect**. It's about choosing quality and connection over speed. When we slow down to cook, we aren't just making fuel; we're building a bond.
In my work, I focus on self-respect. Real self-respect means listening to what your body actually needs, even if it isn't "trendy" for the season. Regulated bodies do better work when they're nourished with intention.

I went to a women's networking event recently. The speakers talked about buying a house in Shaughnessy at 26 or taking their kids on luxury trips (Rome, Paris, New York).
They called it "inspirational," but it felt like a hollow flex. These weren't stories of small business grit. They were stories backed by high-earning partners or big company exits.
This shows a concept called **Hidden Safety Nets**. When people share success without mentioning generational wealth or financial help they started with, it makes others feel like they aren't working hard enough. In reality, they're just playing a different game.
In my work, I focus on self-respect. Real self-respect means you don't have to mirror someone else's lifestyle to be "enough".
We should celebrate the honest work of regulated bodies. And people who actually succeeded versus marrying into the right family...

Thoughts I’ve been sitting with...
Death shaped my summer i.e. losing a family member and a close friend unexpectedly.I still showed up with care, even without being on an “official” volunteer list.
Recently, I was quietly removed from a WhatsApp group chat I’d been contributing to.
No heads-up. No conversation. Just gone.
It stung. Not because I need titles—
but because I believe in #RelationalTech, in showing up with softness, and in honouring grief as part of leadership.So I’m choosing to go where I’m wanted,
not where I’m merely tolerated.Where grief isn’t punished.
Where care is reciprocal.

5. Helpful Scheduling Hotline: Even something as simple as canceling my grandma's care aide visits was made easier by the compassionate person on the after-hours hotline of Fraser Health Home Support. They were understanding and efficient, taking one less thing off my mind.
During these tough moments, the kindness of these individuals was a real comfort. It reminded me that even in the darkest times, there are good people who care.
I found the information from the BC Bereavement Helpline page should you also need other resources.
Connecting with others who understand can make a difference. Thank you to everyone who privately connected with me to express their condolences.

I’ve heard progressive Christians state purpose of missionaries was to service slavery. This guy had eye on human suffering and sought to relieve its various manifestations.
