‘ #Palestine Is Being Erased Before Our Eyes’: 100 Former French, British Diplomats Say End Weapons Sales, Trade With Israel
The abuses by the Israeli government and military are “a stain on the conscience of humanity, requiring the #UK and #France to act.”

"While critics of the French and British governments say they are doing too little to confront the crimes and #HumanRights violations of #Israel against the #PalestinianPeople, about 100 former diplomats of the two nations penned an open letter published over the weekend agreeing that much stronger actions must be taken to end the atrocities taking place in both the Gaza Strip and the Occupied West Bank.
Published in Le Monde on Saturday, the joint op-ed by the former UK and French ambassadors and foreign diplomats argues that because their two nations 'played a decisive role in the shaping of the Middle East,' it is incumbent upon them to 'make common cause over the region’s fundamental faultline: equal rights for Israelis and #Palestinians' — a dynamic grossly lacking as Palestinians are starved and bombed in #Gaza, with their rights endlessly under assault in the #WestBank.
According to the letter:
- In Gaza, two million Palestinians are kettled into 30% of their devastated land, hungry, lacking medicine and housing. Over 1,200 Palestinians have been killed since the so-called 'ceasefire' of October 2025. In #EastJerusalem and the rest of the #WestBank, Palestinian house demolitions and rampant settler violence— with the connivance of the Israeli army and police—amount to ethnic cleansing. Palestine is being erased before our eyes.
- This policy of occupation and destruction extends to #Lebanon — where many villages have been razed — and Syria. It is a stain on the conscience of humanity, requiring the UK and France to act."

"We, the undersigned organizations and individuals, are deeply alarmed by the rapid militarization of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. AI systems embedded into military kill chains are accelerating the speed and scale of military assaults in a manner that creates significant new risks for accountability in conflict and risks facilitating violations of international criminal, human rights, and humanitarian law.
We therefore call for tech companies and states to halt the provision of AI systems for use in the military kill chain and to take all steps to ensure that other AI systems they provide do not cause or contribute to violations of international humanitarian law (IHL) and international human rights law (IHRL). This includes the use of AI decision-support systems, including target generation systems, remote biometric surveillance, and multimodal AI models, including large language models (LLMs). AI-accelerated warfare is rapidly becoming a means of rubber-stamping killing at speed and at scale, and currently no technical or procedural fixes can effectively prevent the lethal and devastating consequences that stem from the fundamental challenges it poses to international law."

After agreeing to leave “voluntarily”, CBP officers allowed her to request additional food & let her shower for the first time since she was detained, the lawyers claim.

Detainees can also feel helplessness because of the complexity surrounding #immigration #law. Unlike those in the criminal justice system, most detainees do NOT have lawyers & their detention on immigration violations is [supposedly] not meant to be punitive [under other admins].

The reasons behind any #suicide are complex, & each death often has multiple contributing factors, acc/to experts. #ICE detainees report intense stress after being detained, fear of being returned to countries where their safety may be jeopardized, & frustration & loneliness over the inability to communicate due to language barriers.
