Humane Ai Pin hacks turn the discontinued gadget into a standalone Android-powered gadget
The Humane Ai Pin is a tiny wearable device that launched in 2024 and was discontinued less than a year later. With a microphone for voice input, a built-in camera, and a projector that displays information on your hand, it was designed as an AI companion device. And when it was canceled, it basically stopped working.
But independent developers stepped in and started looking for ways to keep […]

Gizmodo: Apple’s AI Pendant Sounds Like a Watered-Down Humane Ai Pin. “If you were tempted to make the comparison between Apple’s rumored AI pin and Humane’s notorious Ai Pin, let me stop you right there. There’s (reportedly) a big difference, and that difference is that Humane’s defunct AI gadget actually tried to be something other than an accessory to your phone.”

Lilbits: Hacking the Humane Ai Pin, Liberux NEXX Linux phone, and swearing at your Windows PC
The Humane Ai Pin was supposed to be a wearable device that allowed you to interact with an AI assistant throughout the day without using your phone or computer. But when it hit the streets last year it was widely panned as an overpriced, underpowered device that largely failed to deliver on its promise.
So it wasn’t a huge surprise that when HP acquired the company this year, it shut down […]

How-To Geek: The Humane Pin Is Dead, but OpenPin Wants to Bring It Back. “A group of udevelopers started an open-source project called OpenPin with the goal of bringing the device back to life. OpenPin gets around the problem of Humane’s dead servers by providing a new server system. By modifying the AI Pin’s software, users can connect their devices to the OpenPin server and get back […]

"There is very little to say about the Humane AI pin right now other than they are very lucky that the vast majority of tech journalists in the United States are too busy writing about the Elon Musk-led ransacking of the federal government to dunk on this company in the way it truly deserves (we are also doing this but need a break for five minutes).
The company and the tech was wildly hyped, wasted gazillions of dollars (it raised $240 million in funding), made something terrible, existed for less than a year, and are now hazardous e-waste that is a huge pain in the ass to safely dispose of. The saving grace of all of this is that Humane sold so few devices (roughly 10,000) that the number of consumers who are affected is relatively low as these things go and therefore, there are fewer of them that need to be recycled."

The Verge: Humane is shutting down the AI Pin and selling its remnants to HP. “Humane is selling most of its company to HP for $116 million and will stop selling AI Pin, the company announced today. AI Pins that have already been purchased will continue to function normally until 3PM ET on February 28th, Humane says in a support document. After that date, Pins will ‘no longer connect to […]

From building and designing a non-functional AI wearable, that was overpriced, did not solve any of technology's problems, now produced a ton of waste, to helping inject artificial intelligence into... in-house printers.

HP is acquiring Humane’s assets, but shutting down the Ai Pin business (and bricking existing units)
The Humane Ai Pin generated a lot of buzz ahead of launch as Humane positioned it as a brand new category for mobile devices that would leverage artificial intelligence to let you perform all sorts of tasks without a phone or PC.
It was a spectacular flop at launch with reviewers complaining that the product was overpriced and the core service could have just been a smartphone app. Within a […]

Humane recalls Charge Case accessory for the Ai Pin due to fire risk
The Humane Ai Pin is a wearable wearable gadget that launched earlier this year to a chorus or reviews that largely amounted to “this thing is overpriced, doesn’t work very well, and could probably have just been an app.”
As if that wasn’t bad enough, this summer the company told customers to stop using the charging case that comes with the pin because it might catch fire. Now Humane has […]

Humane Ai Pin gets a $200 price cut… still costs $499 + $24 monthly subscription
The Humane Ai Pin generated a lot of buzz last year as a new kind of wearable device designed to let you tap into AI features at any time without pulling your phone out of your pocket or your laptop out of your bag. But when it launched earlier this year, reviewers almost universally panned the device for costing too much and doing too little.
Now Humane is slashing the price by $200… but […]

"The two founders apparently "preferred positivity over criticism, leading them to disregard warnings about the AI Pin’s poor battery life and power consumption."
The level of head-assedness is baffling, but it helps recalling, that Humane is lead by two former Apple employees, so it's no wonder that they've got their heads up so far up their own asses, they think they can just start another cult around a product that's more about corporate soft-speak than substance.
"A senior software engineer was dismissed after raising questions about the product, they said, while others left out of frustration." After that software engineer was fired for questioning if the AI pin would be ready for launch, the report describes a staff meeting where the founders "said the employee had violated policy by talking negatively about Humane."
So basically, the founders threw a tamper tantrum because someone dared to ask if what was being built would actually be functional. Lovely.
"It's hard to make a good product if you can't honestly talk about the negatives and positives for fear of retaliation."
You just know they knew it was all bullshit and they just wanted to siphon all the venture capital money into their own pockets and fuck off without having earned any of it.

Lilbits: Oh the Humane-ity: AI startup is hoping HP will buy it for $1 billion
The Humane Ai Pin was supposed to be the first in a new category of wearable, AI-first devices. But it arrived this year to universally awful reviews citing its limited functionality, spotty reliability, awful battery life, and high price, just to name a few problems.
Last month we learned that Humane was looking to sell the company. Now a new report suggests […]https://liliputing.com/?p=169541

Lilbits: Humane looks for an exit, another dual-screen monitor is coming, and Antec works with AYANEO to bring a handheld gaming PC to market
UPERFECT is running a crowdfunding campaign for another dual touchscreen monitor, this time with a choice of 16 inch or 18 inch models featuring 2560 x 1600 pixel, 120 Hz displays. After a pretty disastrous launch of its first product, the makers of the Humane Ai Pin are looking to sell the company. And there may be another name in the handheld gaming PC space […]

Is it going to be something subtle, like a change to the color of the vectors in the vector field? I think this would be something like a change in modality, like a move to #AugmentedReality glasses, or like the recently announced #Camerabuds from Meta/Facebook or a successful version of something like the #HumaneAIPin. It may change how we interact with the #gatekeepers, but it's not a fundamental. 11/

Lilbits: Rabbit R1 portable AI device reviews are in… and they’re bad (Also: Microsoft makes security a top priority, and abxylute makes a mobile controller)
This year two buzzy startups have been trying to cash in on the AI craze by introducing portable devices designed to let you use AI assistant software on the go without pulling your phone out of your pocket. But if early reviews are anything to go by, neither of those companies has delivered a compelling reason for why you’d actually want to do that… and […]

Are all of those AI pins and wearables be an App?
Yes.
They're just an update away from Apple, Google and Samsung to be useless.
They were made to be sold to some corpo, cashout and live in the Bahamas. Not for solving a problem.

My biggest gripe with Apple products, as far as user experience, and especially with the iPhone, is Siri.
And I'm betting I'm not alone on this.
The problem is it still relies too heavily on cloud computing, making the experience slow and unreliable.
#Humane had an opportunity to improve this pain point with the #HumaneAiPin, but instead opted for a cloud subscription model. Not because that was best for the user, but because it was best for venture capitalists.

If Apple comes out with a new #LLM powered #Siri and gets it performant on the #AppleWatch — I think that might be the last nail in the #humaneaipin coffin.
Of course, that's if all the tech reviews haven't already nailed the lid down… ⚰️
