  1. Much food for thought at the tradeoffs between usability, security, and more. A consumer protection authority (CCPA) in India fined Zepto INR 700,000 a few months ago for using dark patterns. The amount is chicken feed compared with how much they may have ripped consumers off via those patterns.

  3. The UI is not the experience. It is the visible layer of a much deeper interaction. A button can be perfectly aligned, a color palette harmonious, and the micro-interactions delightful—yet the experience can still fail if the flow doesn’t match how people think, decide, or act.

The number of "clicks" is irrelevant. Design for the sequence of thought, not the sequence of screens.

  10. 🌟 A beautiful step forward for prosthetics!

New research shows how tiny changes in the way prosthetic legs are designed and controlled can make them feel and move much more like natural limbs. Users report better balance, smoother walking, and a stronger sense of connection to the ground.

  26. Why is your perfect little process failing so miserably?

Because it's dead. Lifeless. A corpse in a PowerPoint slide.

You can't jam humans into a structure and expect magic. People don't follow processes, they embody them. Or reject them with the grace of a cat knocking things off a table.

Guide them. Talk. Collaborate. And what a miracle, they might actually come to use your process without knowing that hey use it.

Remember: even the best idea dies screaming if the humans aren't ready or the use case is fantasy.

Processes don't fail. People do. Because someone forgot to include them.

  30. Out of the many things that I love about my job, one of them is that I get to have deep discussions with experts from not just #academia as we work towards building communities of practice. Today, in our Expert Dialogues session for the Digitization project, I learnt so much about human-centered design and design-thinking, something they never taught me when I was a computer science engineering undergrad.

One of the consortium members shared that they'd built this really beautiful app for a rural community in #India, spent a few crore INR in the process, and then no one ended up using it! 😬 I'm glad they are a member of this consortium and were willing to share this so that we don't make the same mistakes! Also learnt that while community members may answer positively to all your survey questions, that doesn't mean they'll actually use whatever digital solution you build - you need to embed yourself within the community and engage in dialogues to get to the crux of the problems they face.

Two of our PhD Fellows are working in the Himalayan region and during the meeting were facing bandwidth issues. Something we definitely need to keep in mind - if we want to design a solution for communities with limited internet connectivity.

  35. Anybody else out there using #Linux as their everyday driver for #UX and #UXresearch work? Having just got a 'new' (refurbished Dell) laptop I've installed #Ubuntu - which I've been using for years for home use. But with more or less *everything* now cloud-based or available on linux (e.g. Figma) I can't really see any reason why not? Most of my colleagues are on Macs, so it's always cross-platform anyhow.
Are there any key 'killer' applications (it used to be the Adobe suite, but I haven't used that in years) that you can't run in linux? Thoughts?

(And before you ask - yes, I've used and very much appreciated, Linux Mint, Elementary OS, and other distros. I think they're all great.)
