I just came across this series of lectures on youtube, that I watched several years ago. Might be a good time to give those a re-watch. I can hightly recomend those, it has been one of the most interesting sereies of lectures I ever watched.

1) 2 findings about the hypothalambic nucleus came out in the 80's/early 90's, both mutually necessary if either of them are true (but both likely and supported by the evidence)...one was PC in the gay community and shocked the straights, the other PC among straights and considered homophobic and nazi in the gay community. Both resulted in death threats and other such things from their respective communities.
2) One of the papers that settled the question (at least as far as it's ever been settled, see previous open problem) was withheld from publication in the journal Science until the '92 election, to give Clinton an edge. -
