  1. A quotation from Sue Grafton

We all need to look into the dark side of our nature — that’s where the energy is, the passion. People are afraid of that because it holds pieces of us we’re busy denying.

Sue Grafton (1940–2017) American novelist, screenwriter
Interview (1997-02-07) by Jeffrey Zaslow, “Straight Talk,” USA Weekend magazine

  2. From feeling to conscience to morality. People have a need to be honest and to be treated honestly. They learn that truth and sincerity, as the cornerstones of honesty, are good and right.

But at the same time, they learn that they may be rejected and attacked for their honesty if it exposes the dishonesty of others. And often, the fear of being hurt overwhelms the desire for acceptance and fulfilment.

    The truth sets you free.

  3. Whether you can find closure often determines whether your heart breaks cleanly or whether you feel the shards right to the very end. And how well the wound finally heals depends on the extent to which others see us and respond in kind.

  4. A quotation from Twain

That is the way we are made: we don’t reason, where we feel; we just feel.

Mark Twain (1835–1910) American writer [pseud. of Samuel Clemens]
Novel (1889), A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, Part 3 “The Tale of the Lost Land,” ch. 11 “The Yankee in Search of Adventures”

  5. A quotation from Peter Drucker

No institution can possibly survive if it needs geniuses or supermen to manage it. It must be organized in such a way as to be able to get along under a leadership composed of average human beings.

    Peter F. Drucker (1909–2005) Austrian-American business consultant
The Concept of the Corporation, Part 2, ch. 1 (1946)

  6. THAT WAS WORTH DISCOVERING 💎

I said what I needed to say yesterday.

People were kind, and I’m glad I spoke out.

But I don’t want to spend my days defending AI, arguing about AI, or making AI the subject of everything I write.

    It’s a tool. I use it. That’s enough.

I learned how I want to deal with the aggro around AI. I also learned that most people are simply getting on with using it, and that when disability and accessibility enter the conversation, most people understand. And they are kind.

    That was worth discovering.

But there are many more interesting things to talk about.

    So, onwards. 💎

  7. A quotation from Douglas Adams

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experiences of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

Douglas Adams (1952–2001) English author, humorist, screenwriter
Last Chance to See, ch. 4 (1990) [with Mark Carwardine]

  8. Hell has been a subject of fascination and fear throughout history. From ancient myths to modern interpretations, it serves as a powerful reminder of moral consequences. Many cultures depict it as a place of torment, while others view it as a state of being. Understanding these perspectives can deepen our insight into human nature and the choices we make. The concept of hell challenges us to reflect on our actions and beliefs. #Philosophy #Morality #Afterlife #CulturalStudies #HumanNature

  9. This is one of those ideas I’ve had for a long time that has often troubled me. And this one is deeply personal.

There’s a particular kind of ache in giving softness to a world that answers with indifference.

You keep offering warmth. The world keeps handing back cold.

And still the question remains: how long can one person hold the better end of that bargain?

  10. A quotation from Samuel Johnson

He who has so little knowledge of human nature, as to seek happiness by changing any thing but his own dispositions, will waste his life in fruitless efforts, and multiply the griefs which he purposes to remove.

Samuel Johnson (1709–1784) English writer, lexicographer, critic
Essay (1750-04-07), The Rambler, No. 6

  11. A quotation from Mark Twain

I was afraid of a united Church; it makes a mighty power, the mightiest conceivable, and then when it by and by gets into selfish hands, as it is always bound to do, it means death to human liberty and paralysis to human thought.

Mark Twain (1835–1910) American writer [pseud. of Samuel Clemens]
Novel (1889), A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, Part 3 “The Tale of the Lost Land,” ch. 10 “Beginnings of Civilization”

  12. A quotation from Bill Watterson

CALVIN: Do you believe in the Devil? You know, a supreme evil being dedicated to the temptation, corruption, and destruction of Man?
HOBBES: I’m not sure Man needs the help.

Bill Watterson (b. 1958) American cartoonist

  14. A quotation from Twain

Unlimited power is the ideal thing when it is in safe hands. The despotism of heaven is the one absolutely perfect government, and earthly despotism would be the absolute perfect earthly government if the conditions were the same; namely the despot the perfectest individual of the human race, and his lease of life perpetual; but as a perishable, perfect man must die and leave his despotism in the hands of an imperfect successor, an earthly despotism is not merely a bad form of government, it is the worst form that is possible.

Mark Twain (1835-1910) American writer [pseud. of Samuel Clemens]
Novel (1889), A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, Part 3 “The Tale of the Lost Land,” ch. 10 “Beginnings of Civilization”
