  1. Review of "The Best of World SF Volume 3" (4 stars): A good anthology of SFF by writers from around the world.

  2. @[email protected] Same as @[email protected]. I have my country, the #Philippines, in my bio because I want others to know that:
    1. There are cultural differences.
    2. There are language barriers.

Even though I am speaking English, my English is Philippine English, thus, there are words that I use that means differently elsewhere; or I might misunderstand a word because it is used differently here.

In addition to that, different cultures also have different this and that, like tolerance and how we relate to something that was said.

So, for example, something is offensive in another culture but is not offensive at all here in the Philippines. And vice versa.

By showing where I am from, I am hoping that the person reading my bio is getting more aware that there is a whole different world out there than the world they are used to.

Even in community moderation. Most communities forget that there are cultural contexts and language differences to consider. They claim to be a “global community” yet their moderation rules are biased towards their own neighbourhood. In the end, they are unknowingly alienating other people and creating division, instead of fostering understanding and truly standing up for diversity (instead of just lip service).

    ^_^

Sorry, that ended up long. But as we say in the Philippines,
#hugot. (“hugot” in this context is “one's comments is coming from somewhere deep)
