Delighted at how easy #HugoIO makes it to do page redirects. Frustrated that I tried three other ways before I discovered they are called "aliases". Onwards!

After yet more brokenness I finally gave up the ghost on using #Git submodules for the #HugoIo blog and nuked the main repo on the Hugo directory, re-initializing the public and theme directories as freestanding repos. And finally things seem to be working as they should!
A whole Git repo for the entire directory seemed like overkill anyway, to say nothing of the nothing-but-trouble submodules. I was only ever using repos for the free GitHub Pages hosting. Everything in the Hugo directory is expendable except the Org file where my posts are drafted, my configurations, and layout modifications. Regular backups should be enough to preserve those.
Also had to edit a JS file in the theme to solve a false positive problem in search results, thanks to an issue in the theme repo and a helpful update by the original poster. https://github.com/adityatelange/hugo-PaperMod/issues/863#issuecomment-1084952560
