  3. Trying to update my #HugoAward nominations. I have now logged on @LAcon member site twice (the first time it just told me I’m on a different device and need to go back to the original one—thanks but no thanks), and confirmed three times that I’m about to log on the site—yes, I know, that is why I clicked on “login” and entered my username and password—so maybe I’m close to actually being allowed to log in.

…why do people feel the need to make login systems overly complicated? (I know, SSO…)

  5. @skribe Works became eligible for Retro Hugos at 50, 75, or 100 years after their publication date if there were no Hugo awards nominated for their publication year (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Awa).

As LOTR was published between 1954 and 1955 (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lord), that would have made the individual books eligible in 2004/2005, but they wouldn't have been eligible again until 2029/2030 or 2054/2055.

Retro Hugos started in 1996 and were optional; it was up to that year's Hugo committee as to whether or not they'd award them.

Noreascon 4 (2004's Worldcon) did award Retro Hugos for 1954; neither TFotR nor TTT were nominated (thehugoawards.org/hugo-history). I can't speak to why (that was before I started paying attention to the Hugos); it's possible that they were nominated, but not in sufficient numbers to make the final ballot.

The Hugo award was awarded in 1955, so TRotK would not have been eligible for a Retro Hugo. Nominations for the 1955 Hugos are not listed on the award's official site, so I don't know if TRotK was nominated that year (thehugoawards.org/hugo-history).

This past year the Hugo awards were officially removed from the WSFS constitution, so no further Retro Hugos will be awarded.

  8. The 2025 #HugoAward nomination data report has been added to the Report section of this year's award winners page: seattlein2025.org/wsfs/hugo-aw . Check out the "long list" of nominees that didn't quite make the final ballot and fill out those reading lists a little bit more!

  9. Happy that a very inside baseball article didn’t win the #HugoAward. It seemed quite popular with a certain insider crowd, but the larger voting body of Worldcon members rewarded a proper book instead.

I don’t like it when the award goes to a report, article, blog post, or even a speech about the awards themselves. Cheapens the awards IMO.

  10. the only #StarTrek episodes that have won the #HugoAward are:
    TOS: "The Menagerie"
TOS: "The City on the Edge of Forever"
    TNG: "The Inner Light"
    TNG: "All Good Things"
    LD: "The New Next Generation"

(plus Star Trek: Lower Decks – Warp Your Own Way won the best comic Hugo)
