"Another big Canadian retailer, Canadian Tire, bought HBC’s intellectual property rights. And, a billionaire from British Columbia, Weihong Liu, bought the leases to some of the chain"s stores and reportedly says she has plans to reopen."

  5. It has been the final week of the retail business for #HudsonsBay , with both stores in Winnipeg down to selling furniture and fixtures in the remaining few days.
Will be interesting to see what #CanadianTire does with their trademarks in the future. They got a bargain buying it all for 30 001 670$CAN (like the 1670 added on).
The downtown building, which closed as a store in 2020, is presently undergoing a complete transformation into Indigenous-led Wehwehneh Bahgahkinahgohn ("it is visible").

  6. Its 2042, there are only two Canadian chains left

    Canadian Tire and Dollarama

They are in a fight to the death for customers looking to pay the lowest price for ketchup, toilet paper and random canned foods that you can buy outside of the last remaining grocery store owned by Galen, "No Fucks Given (tm)", where you browse shipping containers of vegetables.

  7. The year is 2032, you go to Canadian Tire to visit the in-store sub-brand Hudsons Bay and then into the sub-sub-brand Zellers location which is only 1 shelf of branded products that have no connection except for that mug with the Fields logo on it.

"Why when our stores first opened it was nothing but a wasteland of parking lots and our lowest prices of the random period we came up with for that flyer, but now in here in 2425 we are proud to announce we finally stopped letting rando hungover kids work on your space cars"

  12. Things at The Hudson's Bay Company (aka "The Bay") is so dire that the company is looking to liquidate the entire business unless it finds another viable way forward.

Quite a sad end to the oldest company in North America as The Hudson's Bay company has been around since 1670.
