I'm teaching a class tomorrow on Arabic / Persian #HTR, and my example manuscript is absolutely amazing. It's a famous 16th-century work on mathematics by al-'Āmilī made in India and has an absolutely insane-looking layout - glosses going diagonally in several directions off the main text - that is nevertheless relatively clear to a human reader, and is not unusual in Arabic books. Will be interesting to see how an AI handles it!

you go on and off for years to improve your reading skills of #Kurrent / #Sütterlin, even trying to adopt the latter as your "secret" handwriting and then: first comes #AI and seems to make all of it redundant as #HTR improves incredibly; then you go to an exhibition at #DHMBerlin and discover that to read #OttovonBismarck (or his secretary) it was all useless in the first place as he seems to have written in a nice, simple #Lateinschrift

It's my last day of office before the holiday break; this year has been a bumpy one.
With the re-organisation of the University Library set to become operative from Jan 2nd, there are still many unknowns ahead and bureaucratic hurdles to overcome.
