I had no idea anybody made an #HTPC-style case that could take a full-sized ATX motherboard. It's a bit of a chonky boi, but that's a logical consequence of the phrase "full-sized ATX HTPC".I've got an older HTPC case in the pile, but it's mATX (my best old "gaming" gear is ATX) and the airflow is *terrible*. Case manufacturers have really stepped up their airflow game in the past decade.
It's pretty spendy, but the same goes for every HTPC case I've ever seen. It's a lot cheaper than a Steam Machine though. Maybe this can be my consolation prize.

Apparently I **do** watch alot of MTV. I might owe an apology to my wife.
A simple app I created shows I watched 2,012 music videos since April 19th out of a total 3,569 total plays. I started working on this when Trakt changed their interface to that shitty "app-based" interface.

What are the best Kodi skins to use if I like the default Estuary well enough: except for the fact that it doesn't let you create your own playlists?
Estuary only exposes the ability to create "Smart Playlists" (select a genre and it'll make a list of 10-100 films): which may be one of the most infantilizing design decisions of all time.
Otherwise one of the better media players out there.

I also need to research some games that have the accessibility of modern casual games, but run on older consoles. Kingdom Hearts, some of the Yakuza games and Disney Dreamlight Valley have been favorites for the target audience. I skipped just about everything between SNES and Xbox. Never had Sony or Sega

my ai threat model is meh i need reps if it affects me, the other is i can't wait until ai gets even cheaper - for smb sector i have said a bunch look for all the gear in DC to turnover every 2-3 years, this will create a flood of parts and much lower prices, smb compute goes 10x - maybe it will be 4-5 years - after that things change like industry dynamics #htpc

does anyone know how to even get started setting up a NAS/homelab on my own network
i need some resources because im trying to get into it and i know little about how any of it works
i was thinking of doing debian and putting docker on that, because alot of the things i want to do with it (yt-dlp scheduling, arr suite, file system etc.) have docker instances. Would this be a good setup or would something like Proxmox be easier to learn in the long term
i have a few spare laptops and a couple mini pcs at my disposal

I’m getting extremely close to being able to use a Linux HTPC to replace my AppleTV. I just need a good remote that works with Steam Big Picture mode and I think I’d be happy enough with it. I tried the flirc Skip 1s with flirc usb and it’s so close. I can control my TV, soundbar, Jellyfin, and YouTube with it but I can’t really control Steam meaning I can’t switch apps. Not sure what to try next.

Okay, it is done! The "Living room" PC is now down in the basement. The only signs of it upstairs are the USB hub and an input on my AVR labeled "PC." Not many pictures to show this time since the conduit looks the same externally with before and adding new cables... But hey, that's Bazzite running from downstairs as if it's right there!
Eventually I need to organize the TV stand, but I'm trying to only tackle one project at a time...

Yep, confirmed the HDMI over Fiber cable isn't the problem by plugging one end into my laptop and leaving the other end plugged in to my AVR. I guess I need to find what combination of Bazzite, my Arc A580 GPU, and the cable is causing the problem.
also it's trippy seeing something on the TV and hearing the sound come through the laptop

Whether I get this working and move the HTPC to the basement or not, I did have a thought: I should make a folder on my NAS for my YARG song collection, then point the game to that share. That way I can add to it from another PC instead of having to use a mouse and keyboard on my living room floor.
I'm taking a break to calm down right now, but this might be a good idea in the future..

It snowed today, so I skipped out on going to a cover band playing in town. Instead I got YARG set up on my HTPC running Bazzite and confirmed the game can load new custom songs. I also fumbled through configuring my guitar controller and confirmed it works. Currently I'm downloading a copy of my Rock Band 3 DLC to this PC, then I'm going to scan the songs in and have fun!

I may just switch to this "Yet Another Rhythm Game" thing in the future. My gaming PC/HTPC is still technically running Win10 whenever I power it back on... When I stop putting off choosing a Linux distro for gaming and set it up, it looks like I should be set to use it for this purpose. It looks like I should be able to use my official Rock Band DLC and customs with minimal conversions as well?

Has anyone setup an #HTPC with #Bazzite to act as a living room replacement for something like an Apple TV. There is really only 4 streaming apps I use and I think they can be PWA. Jellyfin has to be a first class app on there as well as Stremio currently. Be interested to hear if anyone is running something similar. I don't have any intention of gaming on it but bootc feels right for an appliance type device.

OK and this $19 eBay score is a Digital Sign Display. Well, actually it's just a tiny AMD PC, complete with 128GB SSD and WiFi. With a quad core Jaguar+ based APU (similar to base PS4). I'm turning this into a HTPC for the bedroom using Tiny10 by NTDEV.

anyone using a recent mac mini as a HTPC? I got a bunch of gift vouchers for a tech store that sells apple tech, and am in need of a new device to play streaming services and jellyfin. With the vouchers it would only cost me a few hundred dollars.
Plus the idea of later tinkering with asahi linux when it supports the M4 is tempting

Linux fucking rocks.
I was using my old gaming system from 2007(!) as a living room PC. It didn't even have UEFI yet.
It was time to upgrade, so I swapped the boot drive into a much newer AMD based mini PC from 2019.
It booted right up to the desktop, as if nothing ever happened. They are 12 years apart!
It said "No NVIDIA GPU found" during boot, but it still worked fine. All I had to do was uninstall the NVIDIA driver. Done.
