  1. As a kid i dreamed of ALL THE tech and what could be. New stuff always excited me but these days it's just dire, the only thing in recent years that brought back some joy was #VR and #RISC_V but everything else coming out, I just wonder how big tech will use it to fuck us up even more...

And as kid I would have also never dreamed that things like a 21 years old #HPUX #Unix workstation would help me stay sane and fill me with true wonder instead.

  2. Update! The HP9000/712‘s Power Supply Unit had an error in the IC STR80154A that is responsible for doubling 115V to 230V. It was latched up in doubling mode, causing a short circuit.

👀 Now the machine is in "Graphics Error" mode (flashing power LED). Screen says out of range (not sure if true or it just doesn't like 75Hz). Does anyone know in which actual situations the LED flashing happens and when not?

  3. Finally HP 9000 owner 😎 It’s the model 712 #pizzabox. Lets see if I can make this baby shine again! #parisc #hppa #hp9000 #risc #unix

  4. Yesterday I got the AD385A 10 gigabit (10GBASE-SR4) NIC card in my HP Workstation C8000 working. The C8000 was HP's last Precision Architecture workstation, introduced in late 2003. Mine has two dual core 1 GHz PA8900 CPUs.
The AD385A has the short reach optical transceiver embedded, as it predates SFP+. My closest 10G switch port was copper, so rather than running fiber to the rack, I used a 10G media translator.

  5. Still periodically amazed that the good people of #PariscLinux still work on that port, and even provide regular news updates on the wiki:

  6. Firing up the old #hppa #parisc machines this morning.

The Debian install I apparently did the last time on the #HP #Visualize B180L is broken (kernel panic at boot), guess I now have one more thing to do this winter :shibasmug:
