  1. I’m going to be at the opening of Arcata’s Friday Night Market, where El Pulpo Magnifico is scheduled to perform!

Crafts, food, art, and around 600 students bussed in from Cal Poly to see their school town’s downtown plaza!

    Should be fun! 5:30-10:00pm

  2. I drew an Allen's Hummingbird Monday on my livestream. It's a bird of the Pacific Coast, found along the Redwood Coast of California up to southern Oregon. It's a favorite of locals here where I live.

I do all my work by hand in Procreate on my iPad Pro, then print it all in studio on my giclée printer. I don't use any "artificial assistive" nonsense. #Humanmade

  3. I had a genuinely great experience vending at our local Humboldt County Obon Festival.

It was a cultural event that was a celebration without being about a party with alcohol and two-fisted drinking. It drew a much more mature, balanced, respectful crowd that was there for the tradition of honoring family and ancestry instead of an opportunity to cut loose and lose themselves.

I made more sales there than all but one of the Friday Night Markets where I set up my booth every week all summer, and had genuinely valuable chats with customers. The Obon Festival is one of my favorite vending opportunities in Humboldt County, and I deeply enjoy the experience.

I'm finally starting to have the capacity to be a bit more selective regarding where I choose to sell my work. The population of this area is aging significantly, and there's less of a desire for opportunities to indulge in getting high or drunk and go even more deaf listening to loud music.

So many fairs and festivals are marketed as "parties" and they all feel the same. The Obon Festival was very different. And I think we need more purpose-driven events in Humboldt County.

  4. Tonight is the last Friday Night Market of the year in Eureka, CA. it'll shift to a nearby town 10 minutes north called Arcata, where it'll continue for the next month.

I made the event posters for both Markets this year. They're a paired set, meant to mirror and reflect each other. One features a Night Heron, the other a Marsh Wren.

Eureka's event was near the waterfront and the Night Heron was a secret nod to the evening event for those in the know. Arcata has a famous water reclamation marsh and wildlife refuge, where the Marsh Wren is a common sight.

  5. Tonight I'm at Friday Night Market. I'll be selling my greeting cards and prints! Music, a Farmers Market, locally made food and craft artisans from all over the region!

Tomorrow I'll be at Block Party on F Street, which celebrates art and health. The block has a major regional art museum, a coop art gallery, two private studios, and a classic theatre for movies and music performance.

There'll be Plein Aire painters, fire dancers, an upbeat calypso band, an art and frame fire sale, awards for photography in the local coop, and overlapping Arts Alive! happening concurrently all over downtown! The museum will be free, the theatre is giving away free popcorn! There's a children's area as well as hard cider, and lots of local artists selling their artwork.

  9. I wrote a blog post on the North Coast Open Studios event happening this weekend in Humboldt County here in northern California where I live.

It’s… a thing. Ha! It really helps local artists pull out all the stops. I remember finding the Guidebook at a newsstand when I visited here for the first time before moving, and it was a HUGE factor in deciding to relocate here. It really showed me a snapshot of the level of local creativity that was stupefying. The ads, the organizations, the sheer number of artists… It was a revelation to me, and made me want to be a part of it.

So now, a year later, I’m listed as one of those local artists, and I’ll be opening my home studio to the public so they can come see what I do and how I do it.

    Should be fun!!

  10. North Coast Open Studios is coming.

    June 6th & 7th, then 13th & 14th.

Artists all across Humboldt County here in Northern California (no, the *actual* Northern California 5 hours north of San Francisco) will be opening their studios to share their workspaces and their processes.

I’ll be participating for the first time.

    It’s coming.

  11. I made a Northern Red-Legged Frog today during my livestream as part of a larger illustration. This lovely creature comes in a variety of coral-red color variations and patterns. It can be found here in Humboldt County where I live along the Redwood Coast, five hours north of San Francisco almost to Oregon. The frogs live all along the Pacific coast from where I am into northern British Columbia.

I don’t do many frogs. I had fun doing this one!

  12. They did an article on me as the featured artist for Friday Night Market in my local newspaper. Here’s a gift link:

    times-standard.com/2026/05/17/

It’s a nicely written piece, and it introduces me to the community in a way that is really authentic, and fits into the aesthetic of local-first.

Between this and the poster I made for the event, I’m pretty stoked today! I guess they’ll be selling it as a limited edition print at their info booth, which is honestly a great way for them to raise money—the Humboldt Made organization has been awesome to me, personally, so I’m happy to give back somehow.
