Australian housing
Everyone will benefit if we had a government that did its job, if we had politicians with decent values, and a little bit of courage in our parliaments. The lies and distractions a costing plenty.

The story is from 2023, but this is what the #ConfederatedTribesOfGrandRonde are doing to help the unhoused.
Grand Ronde tribal community debuts 'tiny shelter' villages
The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde is working to support #homeless tribal members with two new tiny shelter villages.
by Tim Gordon, March 15, 2023
GRAND RONDE, Ore. — "The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde is working to support homeless tribal members with two new "tiny shelter" villages. The first village opened a few weeks ago, and tribal leaders are already building the second.
The community northwest of #SalemOR, off Highway 22 on the edge of the coast range, is a rural area with many of the same #housing difficulties other parts of #Oregon are experiencing."

#TorontoON - Sheltering from the storm: how homeless Torontonians turned to #UnionStation as #WarmingCentres filled
While centres save lives, advocates say, Toronto’s winter shelter response is still leaving residents in the cold.
By Victoria Gibson, Jan. 17, 2026
Excerpt: "In winter, the city expands its shelter system — squeezing additional beds into existing shelters, opening up warming centres once temperatures plunge below -5 C, and letting people shelter in contingency spaces such as shelter meeting rooms once temperatures reach -15 C.
"These sites save lives, says Cathy Crowe, a longtime street nurse and homeless advocate in Toronto. But as those facilities, too, are often at or beyond capacity — and people continue to seek refuge in public spaces like transit stations — she sees a city continually unprepared for extreme weather, with safety nets like the shelter system still unable to catch everyone in need.
[...]
"[Unhoused person, Douglas Watt] sees the #CostOfLiving, and #housing, as another major force. 'It’s hard for people to live, and keep up,' he said, noting he relied on disability supports that don’t offer much to cover expenses.
"He used to live with family members outside the GTA, but said they were facing health battles and he didn’t want to add to their stress. So he made the choice to leave without a place to land.
"One shelter in Halton turned him away for lack of room, he said. Some nights, he sleeps at GO stations in Burlington and Oakville. Asked if he’d looked for shelter in Toronto, Watt said he worried about having his possessions stolen.
" 'I’ll be honest with you, shelters are even worse than being on the streets sometimes,' he said."

Opinion: We should remember unhoused people when a severe snowstorm hits
Here we go again. #Toronto’s annual open-and-shut Band-Aid operation of emergency shelters for inclement weather.Updated Jan. 15, 2026
By Cathy Crowe Contributor"Here we go again. Toronto’s annual open-and-shut Band-Aid operation of emergency shelters for inclement weather.
"I’m used to city councillors fighting hard for their communities — whether it’s for transit, schools, safe roads, libraries or parks — but none of them questioned why their Scarborough, East York, York, North York or Etobicoke wards had no cool centres.
"Instead, it appears they believe a single 24/7 cooling centre, likely operating in the lobby at Metro Hall, will be sufficient for everyone needing respite across a city that spans 43 km east to west and 21 km north to south. This despite the city’s own 2024 Street Needs Assessment that counted more than 1,600 people living outside and shelter data that documented more than 150 people per day denied shelter due to lack of space.
Toronto has botched its approaches to protect vulnerable people during extreme weather."

Lack of housing ?
Seriously ?
Or just greedy because holiday apartments bring in more money ?
Are apartments now just pure investment areas ?

Episode 27: The Insiders INN
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/you-know-me-now/id1606562361On this episode we sit down with Ren and Adam, the co-founders of The Outsiders Inn.
8 years ago Ren and Adam were living in the basement of a house where the owner let them be there for next to nothing.
He also allowed them to care for friends struggling through homelessness. This included being okay with tents and several small shelters being built in the backyard and folks living in their cars parked along the street. In those early days, everyone knew it was only a matter of time before the city of Vancouver, WA would shut it down.

This Saturday we will be doing a BBQ and public forum 12pm at Parc Lafontaine (Panet/Sherbrooke) to discuss the rent strike. We will be going over the "whys and hows" of this rent strike of 5,000 tenants. It would be very useful if people could boost :boostRequest::boostRequest::boostRequest: this event on the Fediverse, on other social media and in your friends-only group chats!
Check out the photos attached to the French version of this post of a few banners that have been dropped: https://social.edist.ro/@slammatu/110907410554223830
each out to us for your own banner or for helping in making one yourself! We can use as many tenants as possible hanging banners from their balcony.
In case of a strong rain forecast, we may move to 3714 Parc. We will send another email out if this is the case. Otherwise, we plan to have canopy tents and chairs at the Parc!
En solidarité!

In this episode we meet Blair who helped James get into housing and have his basic needs met, she helped reconnect him with family, and maybe, most of all, feel loved in the last few years of his life. And James, what he did for Blair was to change her life. He helped her take an off-ramp.

We present here a form for Montrealers pledging to go on #RentStrike either in Fall 2023 or when we reach the requisite amount of pledges. The rent strike is against #Bill31 (#ProjetDuLoi31 or #PDL31) proposed by the #CAQ, for housing the unhoused, and against the rent increases that #Quebec landlords have been demanding of tenants.
https://cryptpad.fr/form/#/2/form/view/az8TFuwxk7WPseVABEzja5o8sTLqpSj8+9E9X07VFGE/
If 5,001 people fill out this pledge (that's five thousand plus one), a rent strike will be called. If 5,001 people do not fill out this pledge, then anyone who has filled it out does not need to go on rent strike. The rent strike committee will contact you for strike meetings and to let you know if 5,001 pledges to strike have been received.

In our opinion, ARTISTS provide us with some of the most important things we need in life. Often they show us a beautiful side of humanity that we can miss in the rush of everyday life. They can keep it real, beautiful, and meaningful in times of wondering what we are all doing here.
There are many folks living homeless on our streets who are artists. Despite the struggle to have their basic needs met, they pour life energy into their art.
Tomasz and I are excited to tell you that YKMN now has an ARTIST SPOTLIGHT project, wowWOW!! Please check it out! You will find videos less than a half hour sharing one artist at a time.
The world needs more ARTISTS!

On this episode "The Night Watchman" we are talking with Rev. Rick Reynolds. He has spent most of his life stepping closer, getting to know those struggling. For nearly 40 years he worked at the nonprofit Operation Nightwatch, most of that time as the Executive Director, engaging in direct action for those in need.

In this episode, you will be hearing from Kaitlyn, a young woman struggling through addiction, homelessness, and loss.
When we first met Kaitlyn, she was in her tent suffering from a great deal of physical and emotional pain. She had an abscess located at her lower butt cheek, which was swollen and badly infected. In fact, she was burning up with a high fever. Even worse, for her, she was emotionally distraught over a stranger having taken Prince, her dog, her best friend.

There is a wide diversity of people who make up the population of Tent City 3. For every person living there you will find a profound reason for why this is their best choice for now. For some folks the stay is short, others stay longer to work things out while having shelter from the storm.
In early January, for this episode, I spent two days and one night at Tent City 3.

We need to stop criminalizing #Homelessness, and work on finding ways to make housing more affordable and available for all people.
What Missouri is doing is unconscionable and evil.
