...Guy doesn't really need to find the camera, instead he seems to address someone in the crowd, occasionally giving us a glance to acknowledge our presence. A guitar-and-drum split screen during the instrumental break.
I've never been convinced by the song. That performance was an absolute top-drawer brilliant treat - mean and moody and sold brilliantly. Desperate shame it's their one and only #TOTP hit.

"Shine on" - House of Love
A John Peel fave since first release in spring 1987, thanks to Terry Bickers' superlative guitar work, setting a dark and menacing mood from the opening. Guy Chadwick has a story to match.
Plenty of dry ice fills the stage, and they do the "teal backdrop, orange for the singer" trick with the coloured lights - great contrast, especially when it's reversed during the middle eight.

The House of Love is the eponymous debut album by the British alternative rock band the House of Love. Released in June 1988 by Creation Records, the album was a critical success. It appeared in many 1988 critics' lists in NME, Melody Maker[and Sounds.
Christine was the first song on the Album.

This album by Levitation should be heard. It's a crime I can't find it on any streaming service. Luckily I hung onto my CDs. Beautiful, explosive and sadly short-lived band. Founded & led by House of Love guitarist Terry Bickers, who walked off in the middle of a show one day. They got another singer, but it never clicked the same way. "Pieces of Mary" really blows me away - chills every time.
