  1. 📻 Double J's Hottest 200 Australian songs filled in some gaps in the Hottest 100. Classic songs by The Saints, Warumpi Band and The Triffids made the longer list. The Cruel Sea, Jebediah, Something for Kate and the Hoodoo Gurus were also in there

Some notable absentees were Magic Dirt, Camp Cope and Courtney Barnett

  2. Final positions after #Hottest200 on #DoubleJ. Still can't believe "Long Way to the Top" didn't make it.😠

Obviously, "Thunderstruck"(13), "Highway to Hell"(31) and "Back in Black"(37) are great songs.

  3. 📻 a few thoughts on triple j's hottest 100

Spiderbait had two songs on the list: Calypso & Black Betty. However, their song Buy Me a Pony wasn't in the list. It was the first Australian song to top the hottest 100 back in 1996

Courtney Barnett, Something for Kate and the Warumpi Band were some of the notable absentees from the list

Double J will play the songs voted from 101-200 during the week. This will fill in some gaps and reveal some more trends

  4. As some who was born in Sydney and grew up listening to the J's (#doublej & then #triplej), I need put this on the #ausMusic record, as much it pains me:

TripleJ did _not_ invent the #Hottest100

They nicked it from 4ZZZ who started it in 1977 & run the countdown on New Years Day.

  5. 📻 Listening to triple j's hottest 100 Australian songs. So far it's a mix of classic tunes that I expected and more recent songs that I have never even heard of.

  6. It's the #triplej #hottest100 in #Australia this weekend which is an amazing celebration of music (the world's biggest musical democracy!) but in recent years I've personally been captivated by the retro 100 countdown, where they replay the list from 20 years ago on their sister radio station #DoubleJ the day after the main event.

I won't spoil the #2002 winners (you can easily look it up online) but it was definitely the year of Dave Grohl, getting 10 entries between #QueensOfTheStoneAge, #FooFighters and #Nirvana.

Aside from that, it was a fairly eclectic year of music. The top 10 was mostly rock but there was some hip-hop and rap in there, and a fair bit of #house, #dance and #techno further down the list.

A lot of people remember those landmark years where Powderfinger, Gotye or Kings of Leon won but this year looks like it's got a heap of underrated tracks instead. It all starts Sunday 10am local time (in Australia) on Double J and I can't wait!
