  1. Non-eSIM expanding to more regions: ew. I'm often down for these digitalisation of things, but as long as eSIMs aren't self-portable/transferable without a third-party (i.e. telco) needed, I don't want it.

Imagine your phone broke for wtv reason, and instead of being able to easily swap ur physical SIM to a secondary/backup phone, you instead need to go to your telco and request for a replacement eSIM.. that's awful.

For now, I'm only reserving using eSIMs only for
disposable travel eSIMs, and leave my main SIM physical. That's the best for now.

    Update:

Apparently, among the common telcos in Malaysia, maybe only
#CelcomDiGi still requires going in-store to register for an eSIM?

    Meanwhile others like
#Maxis (#Hotlink) and #Umobile, you can register for a new eSIM, or convert from a physical SIM to an eSIM, online through their mobile app.

Not sure though what it would look like if you switch phones, but I reckon those can be done online too. Fucking DiGi, man :))

  5. My parents in law still use prepaid, specifically #Hotlink. They rely on the home WiFi for internet (Unifi), and only purchase a one-time internet plan when they're heading out to travel outstation which they do quite often. This isn't ideal since when their home internet goes down (completely), which happens more frequently than it should (~once-twice a year), they'd be unreachable via #WhatsApp and the like until they purchase a data plan.

I'm considering finding them a new prepaid
plan that provides free basic internet as long as the line is active - #UMobile seems to be the obvious choice compared to the rest, but I wonder if their line/reliability is any better now or still garbage as they were many years ago? Cos the image U Mobile seems to have is that they work well enough in urban areas, but not anywhere else.
