  1. #Movies #Westerns

Just finished streaming the #Hostiles (2017) starring Christian Bale, Rosamund Pike & Wes Studi which was a slog.

The movie is mainly about an Army Captain (Bale), who hates Indians but who is ordered to return a dying Cheyenne chief (Studi) to his ancestral lands in Montana before he is mustered out of the Army.

The trail of the detail is littered with bodies & almost everyone dies but somehow the Captain & the Chief reach a reconciliation before the Chief dies & the Captain finds a new direction after his mission is completed.

The movie is pretty much all about the white people & not much is really learned about the Indians except that they have been mistreated horribly & that a few white people feel badly about it.

The photography is beautiful & the performances of the Bale, Pike & Studi are good but the movie is too long a 2 hrs & 13 mins & the transition from hate to compassion for the Captain really doesn't seem plausible. So, I'd just give it a 6 out of 10.
