"School playing fields and golf courses appear partly unaffected by the #HosepipeBan imposed by Thames Water on most of London at the end of July.
"Dulwich College and St Paul's School have come in for criticism for the lushness of their playing fields at a time of concern about the water supply, while London's golf courses are also being eyed with envy by homeowners whose lawns are turning brown."

So a six-week hosepipe ban (covering all non-essential use of water) has just started in an area including Maynooth:
(I’m a little surprised that we haven’t been served with an official written notice about this but I’ll observe it anyway.)
Since we won’t be able to play with real water for a while, how about the next best thing in the form of this wonderful performance of Maurice Ravel‘s beautiful Jeux d’eau by Martha Argerich? This is the only version of this piece I have on CD, and I’d be happy to receive other suggestions through the comments box, but I think it must be hard to beat for the sheer fluidity of the playing.

The term “hosepipe ban” does not mean a blanket ban on any use of hosepipes, it means specific uses are restricted. You can check these on the website of the relevant water company. A little #hosepipeBan tip for anyone who lives around #boatLife folk. If you see someone using a hosepipe to fill their boat (or Van, or other domicile)’s water tanks, especially if it is a blue foodsafe hose, this is NOT a violation of the ban. This is equivalent to them drawing mains water for drinking and domestic use. We usually do not connect our boats directly to mains water pressure as this causes a sinking risk. So filling tanks is our only way to get domestic water supply. 1/2

The back garden is in "full sail" as we try to navigate the summer heat.
Morning is definitely the coolest time to put up the gazebo and an additional parasol to help shade the house and patio during the afternoon and evening.
The Virginia Creeper is doing its job and the wisteria tendrils are rampant!
Limited watering this morning because we now have a hosepipe ban so we'll have to be selective with the watering can.
Well, that's my work for today, I might go across to the tower and ring a quarter peal on the simulator. Its nice and cool in the ringing room.
