  1. Y'all are just going to have to put up with stained-glass moths from me for a while, I'm on a roll. 😊

Today's is rather infamous, the death's-head hawkmoth (Acherontia atropos)!

  2. Ugh. So, I had brought some of my pepper plants indoors, and found one of these decimating it! Sneaky little bugs! Be aware of signs of #Hornworm infestation! Especially after bringing in any nightshade species!

  8. I just picked off a big juicy one from one of my tomato plants, then moved it to the driveway, where a sparrow swooped down and made off with it for dinner!

  9. Pulled 3 chonky hornworms off my pepper this morning.

    5 from the tomato.

And their poop looks like tiny grenades. I'll leave you to google it.

    The dark side of #gardening.

  10. Parasitized hornworm caterpillar - braconid wasps lay eggs under the caterpillar’s skin then grow in these cocoons until the cut themselves free. As much as I don’t want the hornworms eating my tomato plants, they do do a good deed by hosting these pollinating wasps. After they all hatched this morning - see the last two pictures - I put the poor hornworm out of its misery. #vegetablegardening #pests #hornworm #wasps #tomatoplant

  15. That time that I bought a tomato #hornworm to feed to a freshly moulted #tarantula and it ended up as a five spotted #hawkmoth, sometimes called a #Sphinx moth, that I fell head over heals in love with.
The moth ended up living about ten days only. I didn't have them set up ideally, because a moth was unexpected, but they only live about two weeks in total.
    Gorgeous creature.

  16. Found this Tomato Hornworm munching on some Virginia Creeper vine in our yard this morning. It was as big around as my index finger and slightly longer.
