Before our hiking trip in Iceland's Hornstrandir nature reserve, I counted the rivers that'd need to be forded on a given route.
That was not the best use of my time.

On the other hand, it also doesn't have ... this.
I had never seen clouds like this in my life.

Hornstrandir is not terrible. I believe this to be strongly correlated to the fox to people ratio.

This is a very full backpack 😬 I pity the poor fool who has to carry that thing for 98km and >3000m elevation gain and down and through several glacial rivers for the next 6 days.
...
Oh. FML.
I'm sure this will have been a great idea in hindsight.

Us: Let's spend a lot of time, effort, and money to hike a remote, protected location to enjoy nature and not see people.
Other people: It'd be *amazing* if we would go to the furthest place in Europe and host a film festival there!

My aging back approves of this idea.
I wish this came a bit more light-weight and maneuverable. (And it's rather pricey.)
I wonder who has experiences with this? (I suspect taking it to #Hornstrandir #Iceland would be peak stupid, but I do other hikes as well ...)

The terrain / slope / contour lines data for #Hornstrandir in #OSMAnd is still wrong.
Their support (Pro subscriber) refers me to #OpenStreetMap. OSM says "Terrain data is another data set, no can do".
According to OSMAnd's docs, this is from #ArcticDEM. Which doesn't have this artifact in their online explorer.
When I search the web on what to do, my first hit is my old post on Mastodon asking for what to do.

Sooo I bought a paper-map of the Hornstrandir/Strandir trails and not all trails there are on #OpenStreetMap, which makes route planning rather more complicated than I had hoped 🙂
Does anyone know of a repo of relevant GPX files? Or overlay maps to use with #OSMAnd?
Are the #Garmin maps any good and could possibly be imported?
(I'm fine with paid offerings if the quality is good.)

So about this vertical line in the relief/terrain map of #Hornstrandir in #Iceland on #openstreetmap.
This is an artifact and not real, right? 🤔
