Un terremoto de magnitud 6.9 fue registrado cerca de la costa oriental de Honshu, Japón. El evento ocurrió a las 22:30:15 horas del 24 de junio de 2026 en tiempo universal coordinado (UTC). En la zona del epicentro el movimiento se produjo durante la mañana del 25 de junio.
Los datos preliminares ubicaron el epicentro en las coordenadas 40.346 grados norte y 142.132 grados este. La profundidad fue estimada en 51 kilómetros. El fenómeno ocurrió en una región caracterizada por intensa actividad sísmica.
Las autoridades y organismos de monitoreo mantienen seguimiento sobre la evolución del evento. Los parámetros aún pueden presentar ajustes conforme avance el análisis técnico. Los reportes iniciales corresponden a una evaluación preliminar.
Ciudades cercanas al epicentro
La localidad más cercana al epicentro fue Kuji, situada a 35.5 kilómetros al oeste-suroeste del punto de origen. También se reportó proximidad con Hachinohe, una de las ciudades más importantes del norte de Japón. Ambas poblaciones forman parte de las áreas donde el movimiento pudo percibirse con mayor intensidad.
El informe también identificó cercanía con Ichinohe y Misawa. Estas ciudades se localizan en la región noreste de la isla de Honshu. La distancia entre ellas y el epicentro osciló entre 73 y 74 kilómetros.
Otra ciudad relevante próxima al sismo fue Morioka, ubicada a poco más de 110 kilómetros del epicentro. Debido a la magnitud del evento, el movimiento pudo sentirse en distintas prefecturas del noreste japonés. Las evaluaciones continúan para determinar posibles afectaciones.
Datos técnicos del evento
El análisis preliminar fue elaborado a partir de 89 lecturas sísmicas. La estación de monitoreo más cercana se encontraba a 103 kilómetros de distancia. Los datos permitieron estimar con precisión la ubicación del fenómeno.
El margen de error horizontal fue calculado en 5.8 kilómetros. El error vertical alcanzó 6 kilómetros. Estos parámetros forman parte de los estándares habituales en la elaboración de informes sísmicos preliminares. –sn–

El terremoto de magnitud 6.7 se convirte en uno de los eventos sísmicos más relevantes registrados en Japón durante mayo de 2026.

Un terremoto de magnitud 6.7 se registró frente a la costa oriental de Honshu, en Japón, durante la noche del viernes 15 de mayo de 2026, tiempo local. El fenómeno ocurrió a las 20:22 horas cerca del epicentro (06:22 horas tiempo del centro de México), de acuerdo con el informe preliminar emitido por organismos de monitoreo sísmico internacional. El movimiento telúrico se localizó en aguas del océano Pacífico, al este de varias ciudades de la prefectura de Iwate.
El reporte técnico precisa que el epicentro se ubicó en las coordenadas 38.913 grados norte y 142.250 grados este. La profundidad alcanzó 43 kilómetros bajo el nivel del mar, característica que permitió que el sismo se percibiera en distintas regiones del noreste japonés. Las autoridades especializadas analizaron los registros para determinar posibles afectaciones posteriores.
La ciudad más cercana al epicentro fue Ōfunato, localizada a 49.4 kilómetros al oeste-noroeste del punto de origen. También se reportó proximidad con Kamaishi, Ōtsuchi y Yamada, municipios costeros de relevancia en la región afectada. La capital regional, Morioka, se localizó a 129 kilómetros del epicentro del movimiento sísmico.
Datos preliminares
El informe técnico señaló que el terremoto presentó un margen de error horizontal de seis kilómetros y vertical de 5.2 kilómetros. Los sistemas de monitoreo procesaron un total de 101 lecturas sísmicas para calcular la magnitud y ubicación exacta del evento. La estación de registro más cercana se localizó a 231.9 kilómetros de distancia del epicentro.
Especialistas en monitoreo sísmico identificaron un desfase cuadrático medio de 1.07 segundos durante el procesamiento de datos. El máximo gap azimutal registrado alcanzó 43 grados, parámetro utilizado para medir la distribución de estaciones sísmicas respecto al epicentro. Estos indicadores permitieron validar la confiabilidad del informe preliminar difundido tras el terremoto.
Las autoridades japonesas mantuvieron vigilancia permanente sobre la actividad sísmica en la región costera del noreste de Japón. El país asiático cuenta con uno de los sistemas de monitoreo sísmico más avanzados del mundo debido a su ubicación sobre el Cinturón de Fuego del Pacífico. Esa zona concentra una elevada actividad tectónica y volcánica a nivel global. –sn–
