  1. [Review] 中國超人 (The Super Inframan) (1975)

… I’m not tired of the superhero genre, per se, just Hollywood’s lately very dull conception of it. Case in point: sitting down to rewatch The Super Inframan, the Shaw Brothers’ attempt at a tokusatsu-style superhero movie, confirmed for me all over again that this is one of my favorite efforts from the venerable studio.

  2. Dear #WatchParty #WatchPartyAlert fans

After tonight's #Monsterdon (The Hunger 1983), @miru will be showing Mr Vampire (1985), the classic 'goengsi' (hopping biting corpse) comedy horror, starring His Holy Eyebrowness, Lam Chingying.

And I'd just been wondering how I could get #KungFuSat #Comedon or #SundayFunnies to show this. So stick around for some undead fun after The Hunger!

  3. I think I'll follow up #KungFuSat (Yes, Madam (1985), starring Tsui Hark) with Peking Opera Blues (1986), action-comedy directed by Tsui Hark.

    > In 1913 three fierce women—disguised rebel Tsao Wan, jewel-seeking Sheung Hung, & opera heiress Pat Neil—embark on a daring quest filled with intrigue & betrayal, challenging societal norms amidst political turmoil & the vibrant world of Peking Opera

I've seen it but the last time was at least 10 years ago, really looking forward to seeing it again 29 November. (I'm saving reading your article until after the #KungFuSat watch party)

#Comedon #WatchParty just had a Chow mini-season in October, with God of Cookery, Shaolin Soccer & From Beijing with Love, enjoyed them all!

    I watched the 4K re-release of #JohnWoo's #HardBoiled (1992) last night at my local #AMC.

I had forgotten how violent the genre of Hong Kong action movies can be but the action is SO ridiculous that I view it as a parody that can't be taken seriously.

Viewed historically, this genre of films is a modern extension of the earlier Hong Kong #KungFuMovie genre where the heroes faced off with hundreds of combatants bare handed & killed or defeated all of them.

Hard Boiled is just like an old kung fu movie but the combatants use guns & explosives instead of their hands & feet.

Frankly, I got bored with all of the killing/combat after awhile because there was too much of a sameness to it all but various plot twists, played seriously & for comedic effect kept me interested.

It's not for everyone but in the genre of Hong Kong action movies, Hard Boiled is considered important & worth watching if you have an interested in them but not if you don't. 🤷‍♂️

  7. My partner made me watch Stephen Chow's Tong Pak Fu tonight and it was hilarious.

You can watch the whole thing with English subs on YT (use a privacy front-end of your choosing):
