TELUS sent me this TV Mini as an Optik replacement, but once the dongle is plugged into the back of a #HomeTheatre receiver, it hangs over neighbouring connections, blocks access to other cables and creates an impossible-to-unsee #NSFW #DesignFail, so I’m sending it back and wondering what the #Hardware team was thinking, or smoking.

This upcoming piece of recording gear can do 7.1.4. I guess people gotta mix for movies!
For #music what I think would be ideal: 7.4.4
As in:
4 "ear level", your typical floor standing speakers. Each w/ a subwoofer, mid woofer, tweeter.
🐳🐕🦺🐦⬛
standard #quadraphonic setup
3 ctr spkrs for only vocals. Vocals can/should also be in the front 2 or 4 speakers. Especially gang vocals
The rear 4 should be for certain extra instruments or effects etc especially.
BTW last ".4" is for 4 spkrs in ceiling corners
Is my home theatre set-up too complicated? 😅 I drew it to plan better cable management. #HomeTheatre #Multimedia #Network #MiSTerFPGA #Retrogaming

A nice review of the new Bang & Olufsen Beosound Premiere—a soundbar/system positioned below the Theatre, but it still sounds like it's quite capable:

The fuckers at Digital Trends are suing their former employee Caleb Dennison – my favourite AV / #HomeTheatre tech reviewer – because he dared to start his own YouTube channel. They literally claimed copyright on the videos that Caleb created *after* he'd left, and of course YouTube complied 😠
If you're a fan of Caleb and his work, and want to see him continue his reviews, please join me in supporting his legal costs GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-caleb-denison-save-his-channel

Hoping maybe the #Fediverse hive mind has some ideas about a problem.
My old workhorse Onkyo AV receiver died a few months back, and I replaced it with a Denon AVR-S970H. And it's driving me nuts.
My #TV is old, from the final generation of plasmas. Great picture. Sound is okay, but it only understands stereo and mono in uncompressed or AC-3 formats. Anything else sent to it - different codec, or multichannel/surround - is ignored and you get no sound. But that's okay!
Most of the things I watch that have stereo sound I just want to listen to through the TV anyways - TV shows, old non-spectacle movies, documentaries, all that sort of stuff. When I have a Big Movie with a #surround soundtrack, that's when I want to listen to it through the fancy speakers and the #AVR.
With my old #Onkyo, this was easy: the receiver always played the sound through itself and also sent it to the TV. If I wanted simple stereo, I'd just mute the receiver. If it was a surround sound thing, the TV just ignored it.
The #Denon... doesn't do this. I have to configure whether to output the sound through the TV, or through the AVR. There's no option for "both".

Q: So, anything new? What'd you do today?
A: Oh, dug through menus in a new AV receiver to find its MAC addresses, configured my network DHCP server to give it a static address, and then wrote some iptables rules to keep that address from being able to reach outside the LAN. Pretty standard stuff.
Looking for a "DO NOT CONNECT THIS MACHINE TO THE INTERNET NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT NAGS" warning sign to print out.

This is the end of an HDMI cable with the shield ripped off. It happened while I was adjusting a new install for our older TV. Push this here, pull that there and poof, the cable was no longer connected to the TV and was swinging from the wall.
The shield (second photo) was left in the TV. Whoever designed the mount structure for the HDMI connector in the TV did a good job; the connector in the TV still works.
The cable's toast, but I have another, and a lesson learned.

I believe I have reached peak #hometheatre at this point. Not that it cannot be improved - it's one of those things that you can sink an infinite amount of money in and still be wanting for more.
No, it's more that I believe that with four floor standing speakers, four atmos speakers, a center of course, a rather large TV and two subwoofers, I have reached capacity of my wife's tolerance. It honestly took rather longer than expected.
Hey all, anyone knowledgable in #hometheatre audio? I run the audio from LG TV to stereo thru a optical cable, sound is beautiful thru 4 Klipsch speakers, but there is like 20 clicks of diff between loud cresendos and soft dialogue.
How do you equalize the audio? Right now I have turn way up to hear soft dialogue, and then they cut to a loud explosion of sound, we get blown out.
Are there devices that do this automatically? TV does it thru #TV speakers, but this setup I have is killing me.
Part of me says "Wow, that's cool" but a bigger part of me thinks this is an excuse to put a microphone in your TV and take the privacy implications of a smart TV to a whole new frightening level.

I’ve set up the #LGEclair 3.1.2 #SoundBar & #Subwoofer now and the sound quality is excellent so far #HomeTheatre #HomeTheater #DolbyAtmos #SpatialAudio #Dolby #DolbyAudio #DolbySurround #SurroundSound
My #DolbyAtmos & #DTSX #SoundBar (#LGEclair) hasn’t even been delivered yet, let alone set up, & I’m already knee-deep in further #HomeTheatre window shopping, like looking for a #4KBluRay Player even though I already have an #XboxSeriesX & a #PS5 because in looking into the best way to get #DTS audio out of my #BluRay discs that carry it, I also wound up wanting broader #HDR format support for discs than either the #Xbox or #PlayStation offer #HomeTheater #SurroundSound #SpatialAudio #4K
Increasingly, people who want to develop their own movie theater experience at home are choosing to go with an ultra-short throw (UST) projector. Offering a smaller footprint, easier installation, and close placement to the screen, it truly is the next generation of image projection. We’ve assembled a list of some of the best ultra short throw projectors to buy for Christmas. Check out these ten options!

@MartinGuayOTT Ya, loved the LG OLED evo C2, just finished up with that one. Unfortunately, Samsung doesn't want to send their TVs north so Alex does those. Oddly enough, LG US won't sent him stuff so I get those lol.
