My brother: They should have a Dewey Decimal System for grocery stores, so everything is in the same place at every store… and it would be the "Chewy" Decimal System. 😂😂
He also managed to explain algebraic functions to me (finally—I don't know why I didn't ask him sooner) so I at least have a grasp on the basic concept now… and it is NOT whatever Abeka math curriculum was trying to teach me in high school. (I've blanked most of that mental trauma out, but the way he explained it didn't even retroactively explain things. It was brand new information.)

no. there really isnt such a thing as "#exclusive #skillsets", only denial of access to the materials and #knowledge needed to learn those things.
no. #selftaught and #homeschooled are not "lesser" forms of #education. in fact, they can be, in my experience, faster and even more advanced ways of learning than "waiting your turn" to learn in crowded, inattentive #institutions that are more focused on their own agendas and testing for #compliance with outdated measures and standardized #thinking.

Updates! Before and after pics of this Japanese cast iron, decorative plate. I used 30% vinegar and a sponge, for a few minutes at a time, rinsed w water, repeat a few times. No elbow grease needed. Then I put it on my stovetop with lots of heat and coconut oil.
It was disgustingly smoky and the teenager reminded me that it may contain lead. Glad my kid is #homeschooled bc I don't know any other 16 yr olds who know the history of #Japanese #castiron enough to know it used to contain lead. For two years, from 14-16 years old, I was homeschooled (which is a great way to encourage curiosity in children). These were my homeschool friends, and this was a typical school day: take an old windsurfer one of us bought on eBay and try to windsurf. This particular curiosity culminated for me 20 years later when I finally started to windsurf on Lake Garda in Italy this summer. 4/14

Grew up ultra conservative #HomeSchooled in #NJ and #ME. Married a lesbian in #VA. Spent 13 years #Teaching 7th Grade English. Realized I’m #Queer and #AuDHD. Went #Polyamorous, got #Divorced, moved to #MD with my polycule to be a #Caretaker for wife’s father as he passed through #ALS. Helped wife with #Eldercare for her grandparents as they passed. Finally got on #Cymbalta for #Anxiety and #Depression and it has made life make so much more sense. Take care of your #MentalHealth!

My #HSchat intro: My name is Alessa and you'll find my personal Masto account @alessa_ed. I'm in the US and #homeschooled my kids from K into college, mostly as a single parent. I still volunteer my time with my state's #SecularHomeschool advocacy organization. I also do compliance reviews for VA families. My biggest challenge was being outstripped by my kids' academic needs with advanced science and trying to find affordable, quality resources that would meet their needs.
