KEY POINTS:

Landslides can occur on most NZ slopes.

Be alert to:
- falling rocks
- small slips as they may precede a bigger slip
- any cracks or bulges in the ground
- doors/windows suddenly being harder to use because their frames have shifted.

"It's better to be safe than sorry," the expert said. If danger is sensed it is best to listen to that instinct.
