While installing shower doors, the instructions tell us which way to install gravity. The doors are only sealed at the bottom, so installing gravity backwards would cause the shower to leak all over the ceiling.

General contractor was in our suite tuning some cabinet doors and fixing a mark on the ceiling. Might be the last time we see him on this job. Things are really good with the suite.
The only remaining problems are for the plumber, and they're busy enough that they might take a while to come back: they installed the shower cartridge upside down (which I could probably fix) and they over-tightened the sink to the point that it permanently warped (which I can't). #HomeReno

Unpleasant discovery - attic has scattered OSB 'chipboard ' sheets for utility flooring that the previous cowboy had screwed down to ceiling joists, often overlapping once or twice.
I'm tidying that up, but found wiring sandwiched between joist and board in a few places. One spot the insulation has been worn off and there's bare conductor!
How that avoided shorting to the ground wire I don't know. Thankfully there's a nearby fixture so I'll be able to replace that part.

It's fun watching them look into this. First thing they tried is changing the breaker. They're now testing the heater directly, and depending on what they see they might swap it with the same size heater that works in the other room to see where the problem goes. #HomeReno

I did some testing on the baseboard heater circuit. I can run my kid’s room and the bathroom together all night without incident, but our bedroom alone will trip it. It takes maybe half an hour. After tripping, if I reset the breaker it trips again after just a few minutes. That’s a little scary so I’m not going to turn our heater back on.

Whew, a long day today working in cramped spaces.
If you ever see someone using #ductTape to seal joints on duct work and ventilation, shout "No!" in a firm voice and squirt them with a water bottle.
It's an understandable rookie mistake given the name of the stuff, but it's not actually for that and performs terribly when it's used that way.

When I saw the vents under there a few weeks ago I thought "Ugh that looks like several days of work."
I spent a big part of the morning trying to free up screws I could barely touch and couldn't see from close up. Removing the vinyl I discovered a large hole that some cowboy had chopped out instead of proper vent holes.
Lots of cramped work ahead, but I'll be glad to fill that in.

So far no creatures showing up under the deck, as I take a break to get some tools and my computer glasses.
A tight space where you have to look upwards for a task doesn't work too well with progressive lens glasses.
On the positive side the cramped work is like an intensive #yoga session. I'm all downward-dog and child pose all morning.

One of the drywallers yesterday cut himself pretty badly on a piece of resilience bar.
For all that the drywall looked good, this was definitely the clown car part of the reno project. #HomeReno

Getting rid of this old thing today. 1950s round receptacle in stunning brown.
It's for a sump pump - swapping in a modern one and with an energy monitoring zigbee device connected as well. Will be interested to know if and when the sump pump is being activated.

Digging into electrical boxes in our oldish house usually means a surprise or two, and the jobs tend to become unexpectedly larger.
Those following along may recall one ceiling box I changed that had 13 screws holding it in place.
So I tend to expect the unexpected now.
