And that's a wrap! I'm done recording lyrics (safe for some pickups when I find out that I need them). Feels great, even though I'm far beyond my capabilities lyrically as well as in terms of singing.
Now it's editing, recording a saxophone solo with my sister, write a short news segment snippet for my partner to read, record that, mix, master, and then it'll finally be released in January!

Fuller mix - added bass (I got blisters on my fingers) and perc, which is me playing a riq incorrectly, and then moved the gain and balance around.
I'm pretty happy with the "strat" in this, though I still haven't seen the light with them. I need to play in a big room at drummer levels. This was position 2 with a tube screamer (drive at 2 o'clock) into a 40w fender with the volume at about 1.75. Sounds better with a mix to cut through.

I just dodged a couple of bullets in the form of an impulse buy. It was between a Tascam DP006 (which would have been practical but dinky and annoying (menu divey), or a Zoom PS04, which would've been cool and funky and had tons of effects of varying usefulness, but uses SmartMedia (worth at *least* its weight in gold (and several times its storage density)) and only included a 32mb card... but I puttered long enough for a third option to come through, which is far more my speed...
A Fostex MR-8. More channels, more physical controls... and I mean, it looks cool as shit, so there's that lol. Oh also it uses Compact Flash, which is infinitely more palatable than SmartMedia.

Just finished this book. It was a good read, learned a lot about the basics of recording. I now have the feeling that I know a bit more about what I'm doing. That I won't be placing mics randomly anymore but that I'm setting up peer arrays or spotlight mics. I now know more about polarities of mics, how to make use of those, how they interact with each other.
