I’m going to lobby for a Shortcuts-HomePod feature enhancement that I know will never be seen or implemented. I want to set a a HomePod volume level to an EXACT number using a Shortcut. My use case is an automation that resets my HomePod volume before I wake up so the NPR isn’t quite so loud, because I had louder music the evening before. #ios26 #apple #shortcuts #homepods

Trotzdem: Wenn ich die Oberseite des #HomePods mit der Bürste absauge und Siri das mit "Ok, ich spiele einen Sender nur für Dich" quittiert, sorgt das bei mir regelmäßig für einen erheblichen Aggresionsschub.

This is really a bummer, hearing the OG #HomePods are bricking and #apple won't fix them. My stereo pair still sounds amazing but I can't think of any other audio product this expensive limited to a 6 year lifespan. I love the transparency of the stereo sound stage of them but am definitely looking at alternatives:

A stereo pair of 1st gen #HomePods (with Apple TV) are easily the most unreliable Apple products I've ever used at this point – often struggle to connect, volumes get mismatched, loud pop then cut out etc. They've lasted about 5 years but deteriorated.
Are 2nd gen better, or is it time for a proper speaker setup?

Bellana is back in Vermont. She left last night and stayed over one of her friends’ house in order to cut down on her morning commute today. At our house she was three hours away from work, and today is a work day for her. I get it. It makes me sad to see her go, but I am also really happy we had her for a few days. Even more so as we had Harry for a few days before that, and their visits overlapped so we had them both for a day. That made me really happy. That was an extra good night.
Jen is working from the office today. I am working from home. That means I am here by my lonesome, just me and the cats. I have a podcast playing on my MacBook and it’s streaming to Home Pods scattered all over the house. I don’t have to pause the podcast if I need to get up and leave the room. Heh heh. Technology is cool. When Jen comes home I’ll shut off any streams that are anywhere other than Harry’s room/my office space.
The Great Heatwave of 2024 is going to become official today. The forecast calls for the temperature in my little city to hit 99 degrees. That will be three days over 90. Heatwave: Confirmed. It is 9:10am right now and it’s already 83 degrees. It’s going to be fun.
The forecast for the rest of the week? Rain and clouds and awful. Back to normal, I guess.
After complaining about crappy sleep for the last week or so, I finally topped six hours last night. In fact, I topped 7.5 hours. It was broken though. I fell asleep at 9:30pm. Not by choice. I just couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore and zonked out. Normally I try to eat something before I go to sleep out of fear that my stomach will get so empty over night that it will hurt. A snack at bedtime avoids that problem, but I didn’t have one last night. My last bite to eat last night was at 7:49pm. I woke up with a bit of a stomach ache at 2:30am. I had a little snack and felt better, but I couldn’t fall back to sleep until well after 3:00. Oh well. I felt really tired when I woke up today (almost an hour later than I had planned) but I feel okay now. Here’s hoping I won’t be totally exhausted today.

One of my OG #HomePods decided to blow a fuse or something tonight - sudden popping sound, repetitive playing of a very loud sound, extremely hot to the touch, lovely smell of burning plastic. I’ve put it outside (on concrete!) the hope that it’ll cool off and not burst into flames.
If that doesn’t work, I might to organise a group call between the fire department, the bomb squad, and an exorcist 🤔😬

I have noticed that an album AirPlayed from my iPhone to my OG HomePods will sound better (more bass, especially) compared to the same album streamed directly through the HomePods by asking Siri to play it directly. Anyone else? #AppleMusic #HomePods

Turns out it was because the Eth ports on the back of the Firewalla router are NOT switched. Poor little Apple box was probably having a hell of a time rejecting unrelated packets!
Put a switch off the router and moved the wired devices over. It’s been perfect since.
Summary: Do not plug consumer devices directly into the unswitched ports on the back of a Firewalla router.

Not sure if this will help anyone, but I just fixed a networking problem that has plagued us for a long time. Our #AppleTV was being really really flaky. Complaining about there being no network when there was. The #HomePods attached to it would get thrown off constantly. It was a very non-Apple experience. But I could never diagnose it.
It was plugged into the back of the #Firewalla router.
Recently I noticed a new event log in the router app that showed that Eth port crapping out constantly.

#AppleTV has an issue recently where if I try to broadcast from the TV to additional homepods the sound is muted on both the TV and homepods. Not ideal. Seems to have started with tvOS 17?
I've been unable to discover the trick to get it back to working other than trying again in several hours. Will work for a few days then fail. Was not an issue prior to recent OS updates

Anyone have experience with the #Philips #Hue Play HDMI Sync Box and adaptive lights and led strips?
I already have some lights for bias purposes, but the sync box is $250 — not cheap. And the strip is another $200!
I use an #AppleTV 4k with 2x #HomePods for sound. Connected to a #Sony 65Z9F. That’s it. No cable, no gaming, no receiver.
Is this thing fun? Stupid? Does it play nicely with AppleTV? #HDR? #DolbyVision?
Any thoughts appreciated…

I have HomePods Mini in two bedrooms and a pair of OG ones in the living room. I used to be able to adjust each room’s HomePods individually using either voice or the buttons the top. (50% on OG HomePods are a LOT louder than 50% on Minis.)
(They’re all playing the same album linked together)
Today, suddenly, they ALL adjust together when changing the volume of ONE of them!! NOT OPTIMAL #APPLE!! #HomePods #iOS17

“Hey Siri, turn it up” bumps the volume 10 (percentage) points on the HomePods. From 20 to 30; 30 to 40, etc.
“Hey Siri turn it up a little” bumps it up 5 (percentage) points.
Same with “turn it down” or “turn it down a little”. #HomePods #AppleMusic

@JoshuaL hahaha! I faced the similar issue when my #Homepod minis were unlocked to gauge the temperature of my rooms. I use insulin and since I don’t keep them in the fridge I need to ensure my room’s temperature doesn’t rise above 27°C. So, I ended up creating an automation that makes my #Homepods start playing #FinalCountdown the moment it detects 24°C in the room 🤣
