If you're not already listening to The #ITGuyShow, now's a good time to start!
Real conversations about #linux, #opensource, #homelabs, and the kind of #techcareer stuff nobody puts in a job description. No fluff, no hype, just honest talk from someone who's been in the trenches.

Es schwirren Abmahnwellen wegen unlizensierter Musik in die KMU-Postkästen. Auf der anderen Seite kann jetzt der ganze Bild-Content zum Training verwendet werden?1!!?1

MOS: The operating system that minds its own business
Meet the Modular Operating System for servers and #homelabs. Based on #devuan built for people who believe their infrastructure shouldn't report to strangers.
Clean web interface (Vue/Vuetify).
Monitoring, storage, containers, VMs. No telemetry. No forced cloud. No hidden phones home. Features are plugins. You decide.
All modular, all yours.
Open source. AGPLv3. The machine belongs to you.

I'm thinking of switching from #spectrum to #frontierfios. What experience do you have any experience with Frontier Fios, particually in the #connecticut area? I have an extensive #homelab and lots of networking experience, so I know the devil is in the details.

I love improving my #homelab. I installed the #docker-socket-proxy to allow #UptimeKuma to access the #Docker #sockets of all my #VMs in a secure manner. The advantage by doing so is that i can now monitor every service including the ones that don't expose a port like #watchtower. And i can also restrict access to given functionalities.

Self-hosting is having a moment, even if it's hard to define exactly what it is. @ArsTechnica talks to Ethan Sholly about the self-hosted scene. #SelfHosting #HomeLabs #RSS #Piracy #Tech #Technology https://flip.it/Y7LCjy

So, everyone tells me #Homeassistant is clever and nice and nerdy, something all #Homelabs should have. But I've struggled to see how I can use it myself.
But now I have a few ideas, I want to start looking into stuff that I can connect to a Home Assistant install. But where to start?
Right now I'm thinking of smart electric plugs that I can manage the state of and see power usage over time, most likely a couple of #MotionSensorsIs there a good "where and what to buy" guide somewhere anyone can recommend?

What is a Home lab, and why tech enthusiasts should build one
“With the ever-changing tech landscape, having hands-on experience is more valuable than ever. While textbooks, YouTube videos, and online courses provide a solid foundation, nothing beats the practical knowledge gained from working with real system ...continues

@RxBrad I feel like the mini pc revolution is relatively new. Before that all you had was enterprise gear or older corporate gear that you could re-purpose. There is also something to be said about learning the hardware if you are going to be close to infrastructure in this way. However, these big 1 u servers are just not useful anymore for #homelabs .

Any #ceph experts out there? Trying to reuse some disks from another cluster, and I tried zapping them with sgdisk and ceph-volume but during orchestration it's causing an error -11 and they all fail out. Some disks are brand new just for a quick Microceph that I tried. Thanks!!

@wollman I used to expect to replace our home wireless access points every 2-3 years, however with my current one I’m hopeful that putting it behind a decent ups and surge protector will hopefully minimize power irregularities which I speculate cause early demise. Also keeping it well ventilated and not buying the lowest price recommended wap and springing for the upgrade pick seems to get us better outcomes. #homelabs
