I was able to fix this issue of my Apple TV not uploading HomeKit Secure Video after it updated itself to 26.1 by logging into icloud.com and accepting the latest iCloud terms and conditions there (which I couldn’t do on my Apple TV since it’s in another country…).

My Apple TV updated itself to 26.1 at some point in the past few days and now all HomeKit Secure Video history from all cameras is missing and the cameras no longer send motion detection notifications.

Do not buy a #Logitech Circle View Camera.
I think I’ve mentioned it before, but there’s what seems like a 50% chance you’ll get one that is unreliable.
In the past 6 months I’ve had two more of them fail, and the replacements that arrived today will set up, but then stop working within a minute when they try to do a firmware update (which never finishes).
Don’t put yourself through the hassle. If you want an outdoor camera compatible with #HomeKit, get an Aqara.

I actually think this may be the case, if the rumoured “home hub” device actually exists and will be released some time in the next year. It would necessitate a significant improvement to the Home app and/or HomeKit.

Projekt TP-Link Tapo C212 – system kamer do domu, docelowo z wsparciem dla HomeKit Secure Video przez Home Assistant
Kilka miesięcy temu zacząłem poszukiwania niezawodnych kamer, które współpracowałyby prawidłowo z HomeKit Secure Video, ale niestety wygląda na to, że nic takiego nie istnieje. Pozostało mi zatem zdecydować się na, „według internetu”, jeden z paru topowych systemów kamer domowych – Tapo od TP-Link. Zaczynam projekt od modelu C212.
Tapo C212 to kamera, która obraca się o 360° wokół osi poziomej i dodatkowo ma znaczny zakres pionowy – 114°. Obsługuje karty microSD do 512 GB oraz Tapo Care, czyli wysyłanie nagrań do chmury. Jest oczywiście tryb nocny, wbudowany mikrofon, głośnik, alarm, a sensor ma rozdzielczość 2304×1296 px, więc możemy rozmawiać np. z naszym psem, gdy jesteśmy poza domem. Tryb Away pozwala na spory zakres konfiguracji tego, co kamery mają wykrywać i jak się zachowywać.
Więcej szczegółowych informacji na temat samej kamery Tapo C212 znajdziecie na wideo, które przygotowałem z tej okazji. Przy okazji z góry dziękuję za wspieranie w postaci subów, like’ów i komentowania – to bardzo pomaga.
Home Assistant
Istotniejszy dla mnie jest projekt, którego ta kamera będzie częścią, czyli uruchomienie Home Assistanta, który stanie się podstawą na przyszłość. Zacznę jednak od integracji, za jego pomocą, właśnie systemu kamer Tapo, co powinno pozwolić na pełne udostępnienie ich HomeKitowi z pełnym wsparciem dla HomeKit Secure Video.
Od strony hardware’owej wstępnie zdecydowałem się na „Home Assistant Yellow Kit with Power Supply” od Seeed Studio, oparta o Raspberry Pi 5 oraz CM51, który mam nadzieję, że ogarnie kamery odpowiednio dobrze. Są raporty, że HKSV jest dosyć wymagające, jeśli chodzi o moc obliczeniową, ale wiele osób też zdradza, że RPi 5 daje radę. Jeśli nie, to pozostanie przesiadka na znacznie droższy NUC albo Mac Mini, ale tego chciałbym uniknąć – zależy mi na mniejszym rozwiązaniu.

Kolejnym ciekawym urządzeniem, które rozważam, to Seeed Studio reTerminal DM, który opiera się również o Raspberry Pi z Compute Module, ale jest kompletnym urządzeniem z ekran dotykowym, którego można od razu wykorzystać jako centrum sterowania dla naszego domu. Nie ukrywam, że jest to coś, co bardzo mnie kusi, ale za mało jeszcze na ten temat wiem, aby być pewnym siebie w wyborze – produkt ma inne zastosowania, a wykorzystanie go pod HA wydaje się być drugorzędnym zastosowaniem, co również komplikuje proces instalacji części software’owej.

So far HomeKit Secure Video cameras are even less reliable on iOS 18.0/tvOS 18.0!
Mine are now regularly going into “No Response” mode.
Buying cameras that use HomeKit is the biggest tech purchase regret I’ve ever had. Apple should be ashamed by how shabby the experience is, and the Home app’s camera UI didn’t get a single improvement or bug fix in iOS 18 either – it’s just as buggy as ever.

Just reflashed another Wyze V3 with the RTSP firmware. Still works fine and now I’ve got another affordable camera for use with HomeKit, thanks to HomeBridge and Camera.UI.

Because HomeKit Secure Video recording and automations seem to randomly just stop working after a while and a restart of the Apple TV fixes them, this is what I’ve now resorted to: a 7-day digital timer that turns the Apple TV off for a minute once per week 🙃
I really wish it was possible to remotely restart an Apple TV via the Home app. Being able to remotely tell it to install a software update would be nice too!

In the continuing trash fire that is Apple’s Home app, today it’s getting the days of the week incorrect and thinks it’s Monday the 25th instead of Sunday the 25th, with the rest of the days of the week all offset by one day.

The camera UI in the Home app is *so* buggy in every way: the date and scrubber controls, the display of the video, zooming, etc. It needs to be completely scrapped and rewritten.

And now it’s stopped recording all cameras and no matter what I adjust or turn on or off I can’t get it to start again.
With the Home app and HomeKit, your house could get broken into and you’ll have no record of it because it is so shamefully unreliable. This is a failure of a product from Apple and I would strongly recommend against using it.
