Ideas for the new course starting to solidify, with the plan being a five week online intro to creating #visualnovel assets of your own for under 18s with no budget (above and beyond having a computer) using tech you probably have around the house and open source software like #krita and #audacity. Me, teaching coding via project based game dev: Hmm. Not sure if this student is fully grokking why we're using a message bus rather than inversion of control here. I'll just check what the expectations are from the exam board at this level.
Exam board: "Has added a feature to the game using at least for variables and an if statement."
Me: Ah.
As an aside, loving Godot (godotengine.org/) as a teaching environment. #gamedev #godot #homeed

It's the end of the summer: #homeed work starts on Monday. Boy got a good mark in his Film Studies GCSE: added to Astronomy and Envt Mgmt, that's 3 in the bag at 14yrs of age.
This year, he'll be doing National 5s in Maths and English, and IGCSE Physics. We are excited about doing English within the Scottish system. I know nothing of the poet Norman MacCaig, who we'll be studying, and the portfolio work is very enlightened because he can choose what topic he writes on.

I completely forgot about universal credit stopping for kids that are 16 and not taking part in approved training, or non advanced course at school, or college.
They are home educated, and we have talked about courses, or what they would like to do. But they are really struggling at the moment, and I don’t want to put any pressure on them.
With child benefit saying the same, I’m going to be down about £400 a month.

This year he's studying for the Film Studies exam in May 2023, and then Physics, Maths, English Lang and Chemistry the next year or two. It's great to space them out! #homeed

CW: Non-school education / home ed
In the UK, education is legally compulsory for young people - but it doesn't have to be in a school.
"#HomeEducation" can be kind of a misleading name, inasmuch as a lot of it takes place out and about :-)
