A separate amplifier is not required for every home audio setup.

Many speakers have amplification built in, while a home theater’s central unit may already power the system.

Speakers without their own power do need an external amplifier, and an additional one may help when a large setup has more speakers than the central unit can support.

Better than Streaming: Watch out for Godzilla Minus Zero in cinemas this November

Welcome back fellow geeks and film buffs!

Great news for those who love giant monster movies and wild cinematic fantasies! The new movie Godzilla Minus Zero will be released in cinemas worldwide this November starting with Japan!

Godzilla Minus Zero is the sequel to the excellent Godzilla Minus One (2023) and Takashi Yamazaki is back as director, writer and head of visual effects. Key members of the cast from the 2023 movie are returning as well. Feeling excited? Watch the official trailer below and pay attention to the details.

https://youtu.be/kw0YhiqOPFg?si=6uIOoWyYINV3Ek7D

The official description of Godzilla Minus Zero from Toho is as follows: Godzilla Minus Zero is the highly anticipated new film from director, screenwriter and with VFX by Takashi Yamazaki, who won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for Godzilla Minus One.

The synopsis: War reduced Japan to zero, and Godzilla plunged it into minus. Two years have passed since then, and the country has faced agonizing struggles to achieve recovery and finally reclaim its daily life.

Just as humanity managed to cling to a hard-won peace, a new threat strikes, crushing hope in an instant.

There is no third time. Everything ends here.

With regards to the scheduled global cinematic release, Godzilla Minus Zero will play in cinemas on the following dates and nations:

November 3, 2026 – Japan

November 4, 2026 – Belgium, France, Indonesia, Laos, Luxembourg, Philippines, Thailand,

November 5, 2026 – Albania, Argentina, Aruba, Australia, Bolivia, Bonaire, Bosnia, Brazil, Brunei, Central America, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Curacao, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Germany, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Kosovo, Malaysia, Mexico, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Switzerland, Uruguay, Venezuela,

November 6, 2026 – Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mozambique, Norway, Poland, Romania, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey, United Kingdom (UK), United States of America, Vietnam, Zambia,

November 12, 2026 – Italy

November 20, 2026 – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan,

I am glad that my native Philippines will have Godzilla Minus Zero officially screened on the 4th of November. Godzilla Minus One’s screening in the Philippines was limited to a film festival and I had to import the 4K Blu-ray copy of it. To be clear, I enjoyed watching Godzilla Minus One and remember the very end of its footage, I am not surprised that Godzilla Minus Zero materialized. With the sequel coming out in a few months’ time, I am eager to find out what will happen next in the story about a struggling Japan and what will happen next to the core characters.

Already Toho confirmed that Godzilla Minus Zero was filmed for IMAX. That said, I will make an effort to see it in a local IMAX cinema here in the Philippines.

Right now, Godzilla Minus Zero is my most anticipated movie this year. Do you plan to watch it? Let me know in the comments below.

Nothing ruins a movie faster than audio that does not match the actor's lips. The new HDMI 2.2 standard finally fixes this with a feature that aligns sound and video automatically. Just remember that you will need pricey Ultra96 cables to make it work. I wrote up a guide on picking the right cables here: https://gwizit.com/go/TUyJ1HE

I find Jellyfin's GUI incredibly frustrating to navigate on my home theater system. (A Debian box.)

Why are favorites not the first thing you get when you tap the home icon???? Why is trying to navigate with the keyboard so bad? Etc.

I've set the interface to TV, and I've installed the Jellyfin Enhanced plugin. This does help, but I'm still in GUI hell.

What have other folks done to smooth the GUI experience?

Better than Streaming: Free Movie Admission For Senior Citizens In Muntinlupa City Restored

Welcome back fellow geeks and film buffs!

In the progressive city of Muntinlupa in the Philippines, the City Government led by Mayor Ruffy Biazon formally signed the memorandum of agreement (MOA) with three cinema operators – Alabang Town Center, Festival Mall and SM Center Muntinlupa – granting free admission for senior citizens with limits starting July 6, 2026, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

This move effectively restored the movie benefit of senior citizens in the city. Regarding the limitations of the benefit, free movie admissions will happen once-a-week, either on Monday or Tuesday.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Manila Bulletin news report. Some parts in boldface…

Senior citizens in Muntinlupa will once again be able to watch movies for free starting July 6, following the signing of an agreement between the city government and cinema operators.

On July 1, Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon signed a memorandum of agreement with SM Center Muntinlupa, Festival Mall, and Alabang Town Center granting senior citizens free movie admission.

Biazon said bona fide residents of Muntinlupa can avail themselves of the free movie admission once a week, either on Monday or Tuesday.

In May, Biazon signed City Council Resolution No. 2026-333, which authorized him to enter into the agreement with cinema operators in the city.

The resolution stated: “Senior Citizens of Muntinlupa City are given preferential attention and priority to enjoy additional grants of incentives as an expression of gratitude for their invaluable contribution to the progress and prosperity of Muntinlupa City.”

This latest development will eventually attract more senior citizens to enter the specific commercial places that have cinemas. Festival Mall’s modern cinemas are located at the 4th floor (AKA 3rd level) while those at Alabang Town Center are on the ground floor. Watching movies on the big screen inside the cinema is more immersive and clearly better than streaming.

Streaming extremists who oppose cinema viewing cannot argue with the fact that almost all movies released from long ago were made for the big screen inside the theaters, not for smartphones, not for laptops and not for TV sets. I should state that senior citizens can enjoy spending time inside commercial joints socializing with friends after watching movies, and it definitely is not ideal for them to spend all their free time inside their homes. There is the human need for the temporary change of place and it is only the cinema that can provide them the immersive, big screen entertainment experience.
