#holossocial — Public Fediverse posts

Bon, je ne sais pas trop si ce que je poste depuis ce compte #holossocial s'affiche vraiment toujours quelque part. Ça bug souvent de mon côté. Je n'arrive pas à synchroniser régulièrement, je ne sais pas pourquoi. Je ne parviens pas non plus à m'abonner à certains comptes.
Bref, pas glop.

I often see that question about the way I use #E2EE over #ActivityPub.
#FediHood and #HolosSocial do not use the end-to-end encryption #Mastodon is working on. They are going for MLS over ActivityPub. I use the Signal Protocol, already working between Holos and FediHood, which I both maintain. Once MLS is available, I'll happily switch.
But to be clear: it works perfectly with the Signal Protocol. The switch would only be for compatibility.

Meh, today's been interesting. As usual I woke up around 0230 to use the bathroom, and checked Amazon Flex to see if'n anything good was on the board, especially as I won't be working the next few days, maybe the rest of the week.

Oh yeah, that went well, pick up in St Peters, MO, 31 packages, 31 stops, most deliveries are in eastern Wentzville, but the last 8 or so are spread from Foristell to Jonesburg¡¡ Jonesburg is 25 miles away from Wentzville. Yeah, that ran long obviously, just for the route, plus I had a random extra package that was easier to deliver than take back, so I got it added and did that, and now I have to see if'n they'll bump my pay up, I've put in a request, but…
And after that, we grabbed breakfast from Sunrise Ranch, great food over there, highly recommended if'n you're out in the Wentzville area, then went and picked up a delivery from Walmart on the way to my chiropractor…
Annnnd, that went pear shaped, I picked up a 65 inch TV, with a Chevy Bolt. Yeah, had to move the seats forward until my stomach was nearly touching the steering wheel, maybe that wasn't such a good idea.

Chiro, coffee from Bread Co, and then home. Reading and a nap, and now here. Holos.social seems to be behaving today, none of the problems I had yesterday, so that's good. I will give it points for one thing it does better than Wafrn (•pokes• @gabboman ), Diaspora boosts display properly there, unlike this place. I am curious about where my account lives there, it was always said that it lives on your device, the relay just works to keep you connected to the Fediverse, I guess reminiscent of early mobile web browsers, but right now I'm only running it on my desktop, so where's my data?

Tomorrow, car goes to a different dealer, hopefully this one knows how to repair cars, if'n you live in the STL area, stay far, far away from Lou Fusz Chevy, they shouldn't be allowed to look at tools, let alone use them. I will type up a list of what I need this time to help, gotta look up the TSB's that are involved. I was going to bicycle home, stopping at a new diner on the way, but I've done breakfast out two days in a row, so definitely passing on breakfast, and based on the forecast, prolly going to spend on an Uber instead of bicycling the 11 miles.

So, trying a couple things that I'd previously walked away from, Holos.social, and Signal.
Not much to say about Signal, they've definitely fixed the nickname problem I had that was a large part of why I walked away. The other issues were the requirement that your primary device be a phone, still a thing that I don't like, but not a deal breaker. Also there was the device limit, not sure if'n that still exists or not, currently its installed on my phone, one of my tablets, and my computer. Might replace Delta chat with it as that's annoying me as I can't find a way to install stickers on my new computer.

Holos.social, I like the idea, heck I want to fork it, thought I had a programmer lined up, but they evaporated (@[email protected] or anyone else happen to know anyone looking for a project? I can supply some funding, domains, official email, social media operations and such). So, they now have a desktop version, so we decided to go back… Yeah, this kind sucks, I don't think its connecting right, not only can't I find this account or my blog from it, trending tags and trending posts are broken, and even better, when its running, keyboard commands no longer work on Firefox. Yeah, great idea, not very good execution

#FediHood and #HolosSocial, two separate #Fediverse projects (that I maintain), can now send each other #E2EE DMs, fully over #ActivityPub.

#FediHood should be easy to use, with a very simple interface. It fully uses #ActivityPub and is compatible with the #Mastodon API (tested with #Fedilab). It will of course bring extra endpoints related to how it works. The project reuses the combined work from #HolosSocial and #PawFed.

A few days ago I asked if you would use an anonymous way to talk with people near you, built on the #Fediverse and #OSM (#OpenStreetMap). The poll is still open, but I already started, because I truly believe in this need. It is called #FediHood. Your account is anonymous, private messages are end to end encrypted, and it reuses the tools I already run in #PawFed and #HolosSocial.

#HolosSocial will soon get an update (relay + app). The focus is the sync process, which will be more aggressive through the Bloom filter.

Currently, some activities aren't filtered upstream (mostly undo ones), so the device downloads and processes them for nothing. This was a kind of guardrail that's no longer necessary.

With this release, the device downloads far fewer activities (around 80% of what arrived was useless), so sync will get much faster.

I understand the admin point of view.
In my humble opinion, most of those moderation and financial issues would disappear instantly if anyone could be able to run his own server.

Would you consider something like #holossocial ?
They run the relay, which is a tecnical thing, the rest is up to you

As a reminder about this choice: I used an AI to write part of the #Holos docs, and also to review and help me fix some code I had written. At first I didn't feel concerned by the debate (no vibe coding on my side), but it went further than that. Out of respect for everyone using my work, transparency and action were needed.

#Fedilab isn't affected and stays on #Codeberg.

Oh, assez galère d'envoyer une image avec un commentaire et une légende sur #HolosSocial.
L'écran est coupé en deux pour le clavier, puis en deux pour la partie avec l'image et il reste deux toutes petites parties pour taper le alt et le post. Le alt, je ne peux même pas voir ce que je tape en direct.

Elle tourne en permanence sur mon téléphone, je ne sais pas si ça peut interférer avec certaines notifications qui ne fonctionnent pas.
J'ai ajouté dans les filtres ceux mis à jour par @[email protected] , pour l'instant ça fonctionne bien avec tout le reste.

Petit rappel : je teste #HolosSocial donc je tente de me servir en priorité de mon compte là-bas ces jours-ci ( @[email protected] ). Pensez à m'autoriser à vous suivre aussi avec ce compte-là, svp, et à m'ajouter dans vos abo.
Bon, j'ai pas mal de problèmes de notifications et de synchronisation, ça aide pas pour les interactions, mais si j'essaie pas, je verrai pas si ça fonctionne bien.

Quelqu'un saurait, sur #holos / #holossocial , comment ne faire apparaître dans la timeline que les posts des gens qu'on suit, pas les réponses qu'ils font à d'autres ?

J'utilise Fedilab pour mon autre compte sur une instance mastodon, c'est beaucoup plus clair, la timeline, mais je n'ai rien paramétré pour ça.

Sur Holos, je ne vois rien, tout est noyé.
Comme, en plus, je n'ai pas les notifs pour les publi des gens où j'ai mis une alerte, c'est un peu fouillis, ingérable.

#HolosSocial is different from any other software, not only because your device runs the #ActivityPub server, but mostly because it took every spec from other software and can speak with them.
On #Mastodon, a #PeerTube post becomes a mere link. On Holos, the app reads the AP message and shows the video. Why? Most software ignores AP signals that do not match its own model, where Holos does not.
That is why switching from a blogging view to an image view with a simple tap is possible in the app.

When I started building with React Native and Expo, it became much harder to write the recipe to be available on #FDroid.

#CastLab was my first one, with the help of maintainers. The last build of #HolosSocial failed (it happens with Expo upgrades). An F-Droid maintainer warned me first on my repo. Before I could act, they made the changes to the recipe so new builds were possible, and silently closed the issue.

Just a thank you to the #FDroid team, they help users and devs alike!

Si vous avez essayé de "me suivre" / vous "abonner" sur mon compte @[email protected] (compte où je teste #holossocial ) ces derniers jours, il est fort probable que cela n'ai pas fonctionné.
Svp, essayez d'annuler votre demande de suivi et de la renvoyer. Désolé pour ça, mais c'est pour la bonne cause quand même...
Et pour l'instant, je vais laisser les inscriptions sans validation.

C'est un peu la sensation de grand vide avec mon compte @[email protected] sur #HolosSocial , en repartant un peu de zéro, avec en plus les notifications qui ne fonctionnent pas, l'impression de solitude au milieu de plein de monde.

And also love the holos.social giving power to people by #selfhosting #activitypub in a mobile. (Have to learn the architecture etc before the day with my hectic plans but I know my excitement will push me😁)
