  1. The Kurzweil Library: Breakthrough AI method generates 3D holograms in real-time.. “…researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) designed a new way to produce holograms — almost instantly. The software they’re using is called a deep learning artificial intelligence program, because it can teach itself. They said it’s so efficient that it can create a hologram on a […]

  2. YOU SPEAK.
    THE ROOM RESPONDS. 💎

We have spent a century building and improving screens.

But we have also spent a century shrinking the computer itself.

The first computers took up whole rooms. Then that power fitted onto a desk. Then into a laptop. Then into a cellphone in your pocket.

So perhaps the direction of travel is not just smaller devices.

Perhaps it is the device disappearing.

We still think in terms of screens. Bigger. Thinner. Brighter. Screens in our pockets, on our desks, on our wrists, in our glasses and now literally strapped to our faces.

But perhaps the interesting question is not how much better the screen can become.

Perhaps it is whether we need the bloody screen at all.

Researchers have already demonstrated volumetric displays that create tiny three-dimensional images in the air by moving and illuminating microscopic particles with lasers.

No flat panel. No headset. A 3D image occupying actual space.

Now, before anyone throws their television out, this is still laboratory technology. Tiny images, difficult engineering, enormous scaling problems. Any claim that screens are about to vanish tomorrow is wildly premature.

    But the direction fascinates me.

The computer that once filled a room ended up in a cellphone.

Perhaps the screen follows the same path.

    First everywhere. Then nowhere.

You ask to see something. It appears.

Perhaps the screen was never meant to be our future.

    You speak. The room responds.

Perhaps that’s where computing was heading all along?
