The Holly King rises and the Oak King steps back, now we turn towards winter.

I visited the Rollright Stones on Friday and setup a small altar, it's becoming a little tradition for me. However you choose to celebrate it, may your celebration be peaceful and joyous!

We've hit mid-winter and the days will get longer, but the deep cold of winter may keep us huddled in the warmth where we can continue to plan for the spring. Now is a great time to venture out into beautiful, crisp, wintry nature to celebrate the rebirth of the sun and thank the earth for her bounty and constant support. Yule logs, twinkling lights, and candles in our windows are also great ways to welcome the light back into our lives and push back the darkness. Bring some fresh holly inside and keep it near your door to invite good fortune for the coming year. Put your blessing and ritual items and stones in the sunlight to give them an extra boost of magic!

Tinne - Holly

Another spear-wood, like Nuin yesterday, but Tinne's divinatory meanings stem more directly from its martial use. It portends strength, power, and tenacity, but also the challenges that strengthen these and make them necessary.

Thinking of Tinne as an indicator of struggle brings to mind the old tales of the Oak and Holly Kings, and their battles as set to the festivals of the year's wheel. Today is 1 March, and with Spring just around the corner, the Holly King's power is on the wane.
