I just finished reading How to Stand Up to a Dictator by Maria Ressa after seeing her recent interview with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show during Jimmy Kimmel's suspension.
If I hadn't already deleted my Meta accounts after reading Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism by Sarah Wynn-Williams, I would be doing so now.
The number of times I read a sentence and then said "oof." But it did give me some hope and made me grateful for those who continue to #HoldTheLine. Everyone should read this book!

Dear Senator -
I want you to stand firm and protect your constituents who are most at risk from losing the already-flimsy safety net that exists in America.
Estimates are that 16 million will lose health insurance, 22 million will have nutrition assistance cut back, and there's the potential for this Republican Administration to remove housing assistance from 4 million.
Continuing resolutions to keep the government open that do not restore Medicaid, nutrition assistance, make permanent the Affordable Care Act subsidies for low income families need to be a non-starter. Please also make sure that housing subsidies for the poor stay in place.
I know that is a lot to ask but we, your constituents of all ages are being hurt and we need you to stand firm on these basic issues.

I am asking you to fight hard against the desire of this Republican Administration to cancel $9.4 billion in previously approved funding for public media and foreign aid. I believe that public broadcasting, global AIDS prevention, and global family planning programs are vital.
I understand that if you are able to stall the rescission bill through July 18, the money must be expended.
I am asking you to use every procedural tool in the Senate playbook to stall this bill and make sure this money -- money Congress has already authorized for spending -- gets spent on these valuable programs.
