  1. @taipei_times
You call the language #Tâigí 🇳🇫 in the headline, and you say it's "commonly known as #Taiwanese," but then you go and use "#Hoklo" as if it's the best way to say it… 🤦🏽‍♂️

  2. #華人 I accidentally stumbled upon this Malaysian Chinese takeaway in #SELondon rice-hut.com/
I was attracted because they have a poster said "rice parcels available 粽子 " so I am very delighted for this as I haven't had one for over 10 years, and it's the dragon bot festival on 31 May.
The fun part is I asked for it in English as you don't assume people understand #Mandarin or #Hoklo, then he started telling me the cooking instructions in #Cantonese 😂, all I understood was "steam it"

  7. Feeling nostalgic and looked up my old time favourite songs in #taigi and reminded myself of this innovative and hugely underrated song, Conscience by Luàn-tán:
    亂彈-良心
    youtube.com/watch?v=ceU3hZspUR

The Lyrics can be found here but it is typical that modern #Hanzi cannot quite catch the sound of Taigi so the romanised spelling is a lot better taikegui.wordpress.com/2017/06

The band name is inspired by the traditional #Hoklo music genre: Pak-kuán (or Bei-guan in Mandarin)

  12. @willbuckingham Such a dedication! if you are really into practising! much better chance to get into conversation with daily speakers when you go down the old city quarters: Confucius Temple/ South Gate Market, but no guarantee as it has changed so much since my Uni days. Side note: I wonder how much we can really coin the language #Taiwanese as to #Hoklo, I feel with #Hoklo you get more culture spectrum across #SEAsia. Having say that there are many #Japanese borrowing in #TaiwaneseHoklo

  13. @elduvelle @dstephenlindsay unlike #HanLanguages, English (and many other languages) has grammatically rules: sub/obj,cases and tense etc that doesn't exist in my experience of #Mandarin or #Hoklo (with sentence are constructed by simpled 'sub+verb+obj' and no tense/case). English's vase vocabulary and convention make it a better science language but they are not any easier, especially for someone who has being struggling with embarrassment associated with r;l for decades😅
