Finally finished Terry Pratchett's Hogfather yesterday, it took me all of a month to read. The good news is I saved plenty of quotes on my Kindle that will be uploaded in time!

Danke. I'm finishing up a different Pratchett series currently, after recently making it all the way through #Discworld.
I think often about the things that kept me "serious" as a younger man, and the things that have me enjoying "whimsy" as a slightly older person.
No point here. Just rambling.
Pratchett had a way of seeing the world. -

For those wondering why I'm making such a fuss about #Solstice, here's an excerpt from Terry Pratchett's #Hogfather. Susan, a mortal who is Death's granddaughter, has just saved the Hogfather (a Santa/Father Christmas type figure) from a messy death at the hands of those who would prefer a more clockwork universe.
I WILL GIVE YOU A LIFT BACK, said Death, after a while.
"Thank you. Now... tell me..."
WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF YOU HADN'T SAVED HIM?
"Yes! The sun would have risen just the same, yes?"
NO.
"Oh, come on. You can't expect me to believe that. It's an astronomical fact."
THE SUN WOULD NOT HAVE RISEN.
...
"Really? Then what would have happened, pray?"
A MERE BALL OF FLAMING GAS WOULD HAVE ILLUMINATED THE WORLD.
They walked in silence for a moment.
"Ah," said Susan dully. "Trickery with words. I would have thought you'd have been more literal-minded than that. "
I AM NOTHING IF NOT LITERAL-MINDED. TRICKERY WITH WORDS IS WHERE *HUMANS* LIVE.
"All right," said Susan. "I'm not stupid. You're saying humans need... *fantasies* to make life bearable. "
REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.
"Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little --"
YES. AS PRACTICE YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES.
"So we can believe the big ones?"
YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.

That they thought it was an excellent idea to project it on to bedsheets it made it more #Discworld ly & how well run and smoothly the event had gone with fans of all ages enjoying themselves.
If only they knew being in the background I did see signs of genuine panic before things got sorted out.
And that ends my story of the two #Hogfather premieres hope you all enjoy 2nd part later whichever time zone you are in.

you mention #Discworld as a book example, but have you seen the live action films The Colour of Magic (based on the first two #Rincewind novels), #Hogfather (#DEATH and Susan the titular holiday character), and Going Postal (Moist von Lipwig reviving the post office), as well as the animations #SoulMusic and #WyrdSisters?
Short live action + CGI film #TrollBridge has also been filmed, but AFAIK it's only been shown at a film festival so far. -

I myself started with live-action two-part films #TheColourOfMagic and #GoingPostal followed by all the #DeathNovels of the #Discworld series, followed by the #Rincewind series.Currently alternating between #TheWatch and #IndustrialRevolution series.
Once I'm done with those, I'll prob pick up the #WitchesNovels and #TiffanyAching series, and alternate between them.
Animations of #SoulMusic & #WyrdSisters, and live-action #Hogfather are worth watching too.
