  3. AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE
    UNTIL HOBART GOT WARM 💎

Apparently, it’s going to be 17°C in Hobart City today.

    In August.

    Obviously, I’m appalled.

I’ll be expressing my concern outside this afternoon in the sunshine.

  5. @timrichards

Agreed, we go out to eat once a day because we are two well-funded blokes. But we still won't pay more than $40 for the two of us, and at the places we eat, it's usually less. But the food is incredible; we mainly eat at LivEat in Moonah, Tasmania, sometimes at Twister Sister in Collins Street in the Hobart CBD.

  7. Today’s #TedXHobart on Identity was fantastic. It was a real credit to the organisers - brilliantly organised, great speakers, a superb venue, and delicious catering. I could not fault it.

All the presentations were great, but I particularly liked Swee-Hoon Chuah’s message about how our actions can shape our identity and Dr Rebecca Chabot’s metaphor of identity like a crab’s shell that must be shed once we’ve outgrown it.

  13. ORDINARY GRACE 💎

    Brunch was good today.

It was cleaning Sunday, so we had hamburgers at Grill’d.

Afterwards, I walked from North Hobart into the city to meet Pete.

Now I am home, fresh from breathwork, feeling grateful and wondering what I could possibly have done to deserve such abundance.

    Probably nothing.

Deserving belongs to the world of deals and bargains.

    Be good, get rewarded.

    Work hard, earn the prize.

But this does not feel like a prize.

It feels like life simply giving itself.

    A clean house.

    A delicious hamburger.

    A long #walk through quiet #Hobart.

    Breath moving through my body.

    Peter.

    Two small white #pups.

    A #tranquil afternoon.

    Nothing dramatic.

    Nothing earned.

    Just ordinary #grace.

Perhaps grace is not the great event we are waiting for.

    Perhaps it is this.

Life is already here in all its glory, before we decide whether we deserve it or not...

  15. On this day (40 years ago - eek!) I flew into Hobart to visit my parents in the evening. During the day they had to close Hobart airport due to snow. They were saying that it was the first time any Australian capital city airport had been closed due to snow. Fortunately they opened it in time for my plane to land.

It was snowing when I got home to the suburb of Mt Stuart which is a hill, not a mountain. It was the first time our family cat had seen snow. Our cat was outside in the dark prancing around because she was not used to the sensation of snow falling on her.

While it had snowed a bit in Hobart while I was living there in the 1970s and early 1980s it never settled on the ground. The snow on this day in 1986 was very unusual.

  17. I just learned that my city became a UNESCO City of Literature - that’s so cool (but don’t come to Hobart, it’s horrible here, you wouldn’t like it :blobcatreading: :blobcatgiggle: )
